A Lesson for Macha
Venezuela trounced Italy yesterday, but it was no fault of Marvelous Mark DiFelice. He started and threw four scoreless innings, striking out one and allowing only three baserunners--all hits, no walks, as is his custom.
And not to go too crazy on the analysis here, but the VZ lineup is quite strong--DiF faced Melvin Mora, Bobby Abreu, Miguel Cabrera, and Magglio Ordonez, among others. That same lineup racked up 7 runs in 4 innings after DiFelice left the game.

Is there any innings limit in the WBC?
DiFelice was at only 45 pitches. I’m kind of surprised they didn’t let him try and go five.

He could've gone as many as 70 pitches
So yeah, it’s weird that he was pulled this early.

I think the WBC is kinda like Little League
ON ESPN they talked about a reliever who had a 70 pitch limit in the first round pitch count during the US/Canada game, so I’m guessing the managers have consulted with the major league club and set how much a guy can pitch in a 3-4 day stretch.

I've always liked DeFelice
I think he should be on the major league roster. I don’t know where he stands as far as options go, but I think he’d be excellent in long relief.

If Looper does start the season on the DL
And McClung is in the starting rotation I would think there is a very good chance that DeFelice will start in the bullpen this season as the designated long reliever.

Acknowledging it's early
Obviously, we’re a month away from opening day, etc, but:
1) If Looper isn’t ready by Opening Day, and
2) McClung continues to struggle this spring (21.60 ERA in his first two outings)
Would DiFelice, Chase Wright or Nick Green be your top choice for the remaining rotation spot?

DiFi
Though I like the other two, they’re going to have to put up good numbers at 3A to surpass Mark.

If we are going to base this on spring so far
Green, he seems to have the greater potential over the other 2

DiFelice, Green, Wright in that order i think...
Given how unhappy we were with AAA pitching depth a month ago, these are some nice names to have available.

Ven. lineup
that would have been a good lineup 5 years ago.

I'm just getting around to getting into the WBC...
sounds like I’ll be spending a bit of time today catching up on DiFelice and the other Brewers playing. But first, this Japan-Korea game that happens to go on right now…

And for kicks...
Second post in BTF’s game chatter for yesterday’s games:
Mark DiFelice?! The catcher?
EDIT: Oh, I guess that was Mike.
Dang.
