I’m still tinkering with this new format.

A few things that you don’t need to mention because they’re already on my list:
- it doesn’t display all that well on the front page (names are forced onto multiple lines)
- a couple of links (notably Lawrie) are broken. that’s because I haven’t started updating minorleaguesplits.com yet, so players who are making their pro debut aren’t in the database there yet.
- I haven’t yet added SB/CS (they’ll go under “notes”) … it’ll be a PITA to get those, but I’m planning on it.
- My script is supposed to pick “top performers” only from players who aren’t already listed as “top prospects,” but obviously that didn’t work today.

And BTW, “Top Prospects” is more or less ranked the way prospects are ranked in the sidebar. The highest ranked prospects to play on any given day will get top-five billing, so you can see how Gamel, Escobar, and (eventually, once my db is updated) Lawrie are doing without any scrolling.

Also, cheese.

Looks great

Awesome work Jeff. Looks like all the top dogs didn’t miss a beat.

Seeing Gamel start with a game like that makes me really wonder if he’ll get to the majors, sooner rather than later. Generally defense is sloppy to start the year, but if it keeps up at third base it would be nice to at least have a bat to account for it.

Gamel made an error, and Salome had two passed balls

Gindl threw a guy out at the plate, though.

You've got "Zelous" spelled wrong

By which I mean right, of course.

Nothing’s getting pushed to a second line on my resolution.

So does this mean John isn't doing the minor league notes anymore?

Also; looks like Gamel is trying to get off to a hot start again. Already with an error, too.

:) + Suppan = :'(

Nope, John "retired" last year

Very nice!

However, the pitching lines in the box scores don’t quite add up (except for the T Rats game). For example, Nashville lost 7-5. Sam Narron only gave up 3 runs, and Wes Littleton got the loss, but gave up zero runs??

Thanks for doing this.

by cmow on Apr 10, 2009 9:27 AM CDT reply actions

Looks like a small coding bug...

R = ER for all listed pitchers, so perhaps it’s just pulling the wrong values for the ER column.

by Zeyes on Apr 10, 2009 1:13 PM CDT up reply actions

after checking the Sounds website for the box, you are right.

The R column is wrong — it seems to be pulling from the earned run column.

Talk about a strange and bad outing — Wes Littleton doesn’t give up a hit, but allows 3 runs:

Pitcher Change: Wes Littleton replaces Chris Smith, batting 8th.
Gaby Sanchez lines out to right fielder Brendan Katin.
Michael Ryan walks.
Jai Miller walks. Michael Ryan to 2nd.
With Brett Hayes batting, passed ball by Angel Salome, Michael Ryan to 3rd. Jai Miller to 2nd.
Brett Hayes reaches on throwing error by third baseman Mat Gamel. Michael Ryan scores. Jai Miller scores. Brett Hayes to 3rd.
Wes Littleton intentionally walks David Matranga.
Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Alejandro De Aza replaces Nate Field.
Alejandro De Aza out on a sacrifice fly to left fielder Jason Tyner. Brett Hayes scores.
John Raynor lines out to left fielder Jason Tyner.

that should be easy to fix

thanks for noticing and thanks zeyes for investigating.

Also, cheese.

Looks good Jeff!

Can we bring up Gamel yet???

Only thing I notice is that there are a bunch of [p] [/p] tags in the bottom of the post after the jump

I don’t know what would cause that, unless you entered down a few times after inserting the tables, in which case it’s not a big deal.

are the tags visible in the post, or just the white space?

I see there’s the white space — that’s a weird function of editing the post a couple of times.

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Apr 10, 2009 2:32 PM CDT up reply actions

No, just a bunch of white space

I had the same problem a lot last year.

jeff: but i shudder to think of the bullpen analogy to sending the runner

by battlekow on Apr 10, 2009 3:19 PM CDT up reply actions

ok

yeah, i tweaked this a lot. something about the editing interface does that. many great things about the SBN platform, but I hate hate hate how much of it is completely opaque.

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Apr 10, 2009 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions

I just switched to the html editor when I saw the white space

When it happens to me, I delete all of those p tags from that view and the space is gone. It is strange.
