I've really got to get over to watch the Rattlers while Lawrie and Dykstra are there.
Drove past the stadium last night on the way to the airport and it was all lit up. It was hard to keep driving past even though I’m pretty sure the game was already over.

Hopefully I'm not the only one who was thinking...
“Who the heck is Mike Burns and what is he doing in the Nashville rotation?” Or perhaps I just wasn’t paying enough attention during the offseason…
I missed him too, I'm not sure how
He’s old, but he has had a sub-5 MLE FIP the last two years. I’m surprised they would start him when that rotation is full already, with Green and Wright not having pitched yet.
The other thing I wonder is: where is Shawn Zarraga?
The artist formerly known as jihad.
I think Green missed his start going to Adenhart's funeral.

That's probably it
Still, I’m surprised we didn’t catch that signing. He’s pitched quite well at AAA, and he doesn’t walk anybody.

He made an appearance early this spring.
I think he got torched in one of the early games when a starter left early.

He did
I thought Brian Reith would get a similar inning but it never happened. Burns’ signing came right after Trevor Hoffman’s, so that could be why no one noticed.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
Pitching well with excellent control at AAA?
He’ll come to be referred as Mark Mike Burns in no time. :)
Funky results listings...
Quite possibly I’m missing something, but what order are the results supposed to be in…always winning score first, i.e. both “Won 2-1” and “Lost 2-1” (not “Lost 1-2”), or some other framework like MIL affiliate’s score first, or away team’s score first?
In any case, the Sounds-Zephyrs game somehow managed to mess with it altogether, as that was a Nashville win, not loss. :)
Except for Nashville, which I need to figure out what happened with
we SAY “lost 2-1” not “lost 1-2,” so that’s how I intend to present it.
Also, cheese.

Thanks Jeff
That’s what I figured, but the Nashville example (rather, the mere fact that “6-10” was possible as the output) made me wonder if there’s a different approach.
Of course, I don’t quite understand that facet of the English language at all…to German ears it sounds incredibly awkward to speak of a “2-1 loss”. No matter! :)
yeah, just now trying to figure out what's going on with the Nashville thing
On some previous project, I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out whether “1-2” or “2-1” was idiomatic, and why.
It doesn’t help that I play tennis, in which players always say their own score first.
Also, just figured out the R/ER thing. The dangers of writing one’s own XML parser…

*#*&!"(@#
Just figured it out. I do this at least once a month.
The score is listed in the XML as “away_runs” and “home_runs.” I figure out whether the Brewers affiliate is away or home, then assign whichever number to the Brewers affiliate.
Then I compare them — if the Brewers number is bigger, it’s “Win.” If not, it’s “Loss.”
Logically, that’s all well and good, but coming out of an XML file, everything is a string. So instead of comparing 10 and 6, the script compared “10” and “6”. “6” is greater than “1”, so there it is.
Also, cheese.

I love this format...
…if I only want the happy, sunny version of our farm system, then I can just skip the jump. If I want all those ugly 0-for-4’s too, I can read the whole thing.
I think I prefer the former—my view of the Brewers farm system must not be clouded by silly things like reality. :)
alright, everything discussed so far should be fixed
plus, check out the links to boxscores, etc.
Also, cheese.
Really encouraging debut from Frederickson
I don’t know how hard he was throwing, but it lends credence to the “He was just gassed at the end of last year” theory.
jeff: but i shudder to think of the bullpen analogy to sending the runner
Supposedly...
Lawrie’s homer went 420 feet (Zeyes: 128 meters).
jeff: but i shudder to think of the bullpen analogy to sending the runner
So, you're saying
if Lawrie hits another one today, it’ll be Highway 41 revisited?
