I wish somebody would have called him Cecil before the last pitch
So he would have gotten angry and hit a home run.
Great game part 2
Thats what we would have called “cheaters proof” on the playground as little kids.
Great game all around. Marmol just blew Fielder away there.
Yeah, um...
Not going to get too many agreements here about the “great game” part right now.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk...
…but why are you here? After the Brewers win last night, you sounded pissed, but after tonight’s loss, you seem downright giddy. I mean, you’re welcome to stay - I’m just wondering why you’d want to, seeing as you don’t seem to like the Brewers very much.

Can still win the series tomorrow
At least there won’t be complaining about a late start on getaway day.

Ugh
that was one hell of a game. I just wish the outcome was different. Somebody please steal Soriano’s hummer.
The real blame lies:
on the umpires: Two blown calls, especially with that DP.

No
The problem was giving up the HR in the 9th. Blaming the umpires is lazy. Iffy calls go both ways.

Just one of those games
Two cheapie Cub home runs….bad baserunning ends an inning with guys on base…questionable call at first on the attempted DP. ..
Just one of those games that felt like a loss coming the entire way.
I wouldnt have called Soriano’s a cheapie, but Fukudome’s was a big looper that I did not think had a chance.
Goes both ways on the calls, yesterdays strike zone was awful, that hit by Hall was a foul ball, etc. Everyone is affected by that kind of thing all year long.
Villanueva is going to be problematic as the closer in games where he comes in after the junk ball pitchers.
Ramirez's HR barely cleared the wall

Not Sorianos
Aside from Fukudome’s, which was a can of corn into the corner, Ramirez’s was basically a lazy fly ball that barely got out in a short part of the park.
Torri Hunter (or even Mike Cameron) probably catches it.

Lame calls notwithstanding
We still had a one run lead going into the ninth. Even when we coughed up the lead, we still had a runner on base with two of our best hitters at the plate.
Not that it matters much, but when we blow a lead in the 9th, I always feel better when we have out best guys at the plate, even if we lose. There’s nothing so demoralizing as the double whammy of (1) blowing a lead in the 9th, and then (2) realizing you have Hall-Kendall-pitcher up to try to scratch out a run.

And another thing
Carlos Z. had no real factor in deciding today’s game either =P

Nothing we could do really...
just one of those nights where we shot ourselves in the foot with mental mistakes.

Villanueva blew a save, what else is there to say?
Considering nearly every closer blows saves, and that Villanueva isn’t even our regular closer, and that Villanueva has otherwise been pitching really well, I’m not too concerned…
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
That's all true
Still, I really wanted to win this series. If we can play three on the road against Lincecum, Randy Johnson, and Matt Cain, followed by a long flight home for three against the Cubs, and finished at 3-3, I would have been thrilled. Giving one away tonight, followed by our Ace pitching tomorrow…I dunno. Seems improbable.
On the plus side, I’m pretty sure I’m going to call Jeff Suppan our “ace” all season long. :)

We can still do it,
granted our ace is Jeff Suppan, but you know what that’s why they play the games on the field and not on paper. Let’s win this series!

If they played the games on paper
Sheets would miss half the season from a paper cut. :)

I'm actually finding positives
Another plus, only 2 runs for the cubs did not come off a home run., compared to our 3. If they need the long ball that badly to win, it could be a good thing.

um...
with machas concerns about carlos being ineffective in ST (and toms article); i was surprised he was tabbed the closer. carlos is a great guy; but this loss hurts. ive seen him give up some big HRs. this was not surprising; but equally disappointing.
go get em tomorrow guys; and have seth close out the game.
I wonder
After pitching tonight (and, ahem, blowing the save), I wonder if CV would be called on to close, if (please God) that becomes a possibility in tomorrow’s game. If he doesn’t, I think he might give the ball to Son of Clung.

Riske's got the most experience
Important in a Suppan start.

jay riske is the worst pitcher in the bullpen. no chance...

I know, I'm kidding
Still, when Suppan’s experience gets him the start on Opening Day…Riske still won’t be used to pick up a save. :)
Anyway, Julio actually has the most experience (440 games vs. Riske’s 439) of anyone in the Brewers bullpen.

ha!
i was talking to jorge during the game in the bullpen. he said seth has the best stuff in the pen. if that is true; and i would think it is; cause he is the only one considered for the 5th spot; why wouldnt we go with him as closer instead of eating innings in the middle of the game? trust me; seth wants to know what is expected of him every day so he can prepare. if he is starting, great. if he is closing, great. but let him know so he can prepare. he is not a mid reliever.

McClung has done awful so far this year.
I would hope he isn’t given the ball in a save situation until he gets out of an inning without giving up a run.
:) + Suppan = :'(

Hmmm
This got me thinking.
Let’s say we’re nursing a one-run lead in the ninth - bases loaded, nobody out, the meat of their lineup coming up….and it starts to rain, as part of a huge storm. Would we HAVE to close the roof?
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
I think all the roof problems over the years are setting up that situation
But you don’t want shoot that bolt too early. Save it for Game 7.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
Bill Veeck would pull stuff like that
There was a game that he didn’t want to have to play, for reasons related to the standings. He had his grounds crew water the diamond all day and screw it up so they couldn’t get out on the field.

I'm going to eat some soup now
Because if I eat all the soup tonight, the Cubs can’t eat up soup tomorrow!

Bush - Starting pitcher and Center Fielder
Not sure if this made it, but at the game tonight. They had Bush listed as the CF for about 3 innings. I’ll upload a pitcher once I get my USB cable for my camera (Tomorrow).
Sucky ending. Funny how all the Cub fans didn’t say squat till they are up at the end oif the day. Then they started talking major smack.
Man...
I just got back and I kind of wish I wasn’t as drunk as I was for the first few innings. I didn’t even notice that. But it was a really good game win or lose. I did hear a few stories of Brewers fans trying to pick fights with Cubs fans. Come on people. It’s just baseball in the end.

Oh come on...
Miller Park was pretty silent until you guys tied the game yesterday. You aren’t gonna talk any smack when you are losing. That would be just dumb.
P.S. I actually LOL’d at Tcyoung’s comment about the Garciaparra jersey. I hate everyone in Prior and Graciaparra jerseys. Sosa jerseys are questionable.
Not by me.
I had killer tickets behind home plate. The Cub fans were not doing much (aka being good guests in our home), until the 9th when they started talking major shit to everyone. Then a huge fight broke out in Club level (Noticed it because of a foul ball), to the point where it appears the entire section was kicked out.
It just happens every time you guys come to town, I don’t hate Cub fans (I know some of you aren’t gobblins). But it seems that it brings out our biggest jack asses to fight your biggest jack asses and it ruins it for everyone. It’s obvious that the club love Cubs fans (Thanks for helping us sign Fielder) as they sell Cubs gear at the stores. That smarts a bit, but at least we are getting funds.
