In terms of prospects, what would be the value of Prince Fielder if he was to be traded? 2 four star prospects? 3 three stars and a two?

was a fanshot needed for this?

c’mon. take your drivel elsewhere. let the GMs do their jobs and determine their own player values for themselves.

Fielder is here and now, so if the brewers do well this season, they’d need someone here and now to replace him if traded. If we suck and show no signs of being better next season, then a trade for prospects may be in order.

see this: http://www.brewcrewball.com/2009/4/15/839215/fantasy-baseball-etiquette

specifically this:
1. Don’t propose or accept trades the caliber of Isiah Thomas management. It’s a waste of everyone’s time, If you’re taking the time to offer a trade, please make it reasonable. I don’t know too many people who are going to take three or four of your bench players for their first-round pick.

This applies to real life too. hypothetical trades and all.

let the GMs do their jobs and determine their own player values for themselves.

Since when did we do this at BCB? It’s a reasonable enough question—phrased poorly, yes, and not by a Brewers fan, but it’s been discussed quite a bit elsewhere on the site, especially this offseason.

If you don’t think it’s worth your time, then just leave it alone. Don’t tear the guy apart.

That said, I agree with everything you wrote after the first paragraph. With the current state of the club, I see a trade for Fielder for a decent young starter (some variation of Fielder for Cain has been on many wish lists) as a far more reasonable option in the next couple of years than big-time prospects. Scrapping Prince for prospects? We’re not that bad—give us some credit, srdmad.

I'm giving you guys second place in the division this year.

My fanshot implies that I meant trading Prince now. Anybody who knows anything knows he won’t be traded during this season, so I didn’t feel the need to say in the offseason what would be the value of Prince.

Since I live in Wisconsin and most of my friends are Brewers’ fans, they’re regular fans, they don’t have the knowledge like us people on these blogs, and one of them asked about the future, I told him, don’t get too wrapped up in Fielder like you are with Braun, because he may get traded, so I figured just to see what some of you guys think the value of Fielder is.

he's been doing well this season

beat out a couple of infield hits and is otherwise showing extreme hustle.

It really depends on when he's traded

If he’s traded this year, it’ll be for major league pitching, and probably some prospects.

If it’s after this year, his value would be VERY high. Since he’ll have 2 years of control remaining, I would still see us trying to get a major league starter, or a major league ready pitching prospect. I would bet another top level prospect would be included.

I think the most likely scenario will be Prince being traded before his last year of control (2011). I think Doug M knows how much value he holds, and he’ll refuse to give him away if he’s not getting enough in return, so he’ll wait until he has to do it.

For reference, Matt Holliday was just traded in his last year of control for Huston Street, Greg Smith, and Carlos Gonzalez (a high level outfield prospect).
