"That fastball, by the way, was registering 97 mph on Thursday night.

'I’ve learned how to pitch,' Rogers said. 'When you take time off, you learn a lot about the game. I’m working within my pitch count effectively and have become a better student of the game.

'My arm feels really good right now.'"

Maybe adding him to the 40-man wasn't so crazy after all.

HELL and YES

ok, I’m not going to get too excited, but just what if…

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Maybe

in 2011 – 2012 we’ll be looking at a YoGa/Rogers 1-2 punch at the front of the rotation. That could be sweet. If we still have enough of an offensive lineup to back them up, that is.

by Brew Angel on Apr 17, 2009 2:39 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

If we're looking that far ahead.

Then by 2011-2012 it should actually be YoGa/Jeffress/Rogers.

"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."

How much longer do we have Bushie for?

YoGa Jeffress Rogers Parra Bush would be pretty damn good.

IIRC

We do have a team option.

The important thing is

that we’ll still have Braun in the lineup, provided his obliques hold up. I’m expecting that the 2011 season will probably be played without Hart/Hardy/Prince, though (or at least not all 3). Here’s hoping our ‘hot’ talent (Gamel et al) in the minors can come up by then and perform.

Its a little too early

Oops, meant to put some body in that post…

He’s still just working in A ball right now. I wouldnt get too excited about this until some command, secondary pitch improvement, and long health success are shown. And as others have said this will be a 2011 thing at earliest, and without the command or secondary offerings, it doesnt mean much.

Dude, what is your problem?

The guy missed two whole years because of shoulder surgeries, and he’s throwing 97. That’s freaking awesome news for both him and for Brewers fans. Quit being such a drag.

jeff: but i shudder to think of the bullpen analogy to sending the runner

You're not a fan of the stereotypical guy who...

feels that everybody else on a given blog/forum/messageboard is just such a wide-eyed fool that the place absolutely needs a self-appointed wet blanket on every single issue that comes up?

Also, cheese.

If Rogers comes back and pitches in the majors

He would be one of the biggest success stories ever after severe injuries… the only guy I have heard of to come back and pitch after horrendous injuries is Dave Dravecky, because my dad gave him his book

Still premature, but shocking he is already pitching 97, he basically had to reteach himself how to pitch

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

Saw Dravecky speak and read his book

What a quality guy. Nothing but respect for him.

Best Brewers-related news I've heard all week.

I’d given Rogers up for dead (metaphorically, of course). And now we might have a potential top-line pitching prospect in someone who hasn’t pitched for almost three years? Even if he’s a long ways away, that’s pretty sweet. Kudos to Mark.

Rogers pitching motion

The Brewers never should have tinkered with his delivery, but they will never admit it.

by statsllc on Apr 17, 2009 4:28 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Then again...

isn’t “learning how to pitch” exactly what the delivery change was supposed to address? It’s easy to say they screwed it up, but if his old delivery was as much of a recipe for medical disaster as they believed at the time, who knows how much better or worse things might have turned out instead.

I've always pulled for this kid

I was working in the media when he was drafted, called him at home, and chatted with him. It was obvious that I wasn’t talking to a typical 18-year-old. I’m all the more impressed that he didn’t pout about his adversity, but actually took advantage of the time off to become a “student of the game.” If baseball doesn’t work out, he’ll be a success in whatever else he does, but I’m hoping like heck that baseball works out.

Awesome

I could care less if he has no other pitch at this point.

Scored three times and detonated an indisputable in four visits to the batting box.

Couldn’t care less, actually.
