Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

W: Carlos Villanueva (1-1)
L: D.J. Carrasco (0-1)
S: Mitch Stetter (1)

HR: Prince Fielder (6)

Jeff Suppan looked sharp in his final outing of the spring, holding the White Sox to just one run on three hits and no walks. Carlos Villanueva followed him to the mound and pitched a scoreless sixth, Mark DiFelice struck out three in two shutout innings and Mitch Stetter closed it out for his first save.

The Brewer offense was sparked by a massive home run by Prince Fielder which tied the game at 1 in the fourth inning. Bill Hall's RBI single in the sixth was the deciding run. Hall went 1-for-2 with a walk in his return from a dental issue. Mike Cameron also went 1-for-1 with a pair of walks.

fact check.

If my gameday was correct, which it still believes it’s in the top of the 9th, then DiFelice went 2 IP, threw 13 pitches for 13 strikes. How’s that for a way to cap off spring?

PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 minutes for hijynxing.

He definitely threw some balls as well

He went 3-0 on the first hitter of the 8th inning before retiring him.

Then my gameday was wacky. Still, quick and solid work from Marky Mark.

Yes

He looked very good. Even the hit he gave up was a bloop single that could have been caught.

gameday only reports relevant pitches

roguejim or TheJay enlightened me earlier this spring

and by relevant i mean

4 balls for a walk, 3 strikes for a strikeout, and one strike for a ball in play

I can count the pitches tonight once I watch the recorded game if you really need me to. (I enjoy evaluating pitchers, even in my admittedly amateurish manner.)

In spring training,

pitches aren’t logged. If there is a K, it’s 3 strikes. If there is a hit, it’s 1 strike. If it’s a walk, it’s 4 balls.

I always kind of feel sorry for the other team when Soup pitches well against them

It’s got to be kind of embarrassing—you got five innings against Suppan and you managed one run on three baserunners? Ouch. Even in spring training.

So did you feel bad for the brewers when they couldn’t get a hit off of all those no name pitchers last season? It seemed like our offense played the worst against the no names. I wonder if our bats swing especially better against familiar pitchers compared to the bats of other teams. Generally, when a pitcher and a hitter in the majors have never faced each other, I’ve always thought the edge goes to the pitcher.

I wish Russ would stop by more often here, that’s good stuff.
