Suppan in, Gwynn out, Capuano down
A couple of newsy notes kinds of things from TBTSNBN:
- Ken Macha confirms that Jeff Suppan will start Opening Day against Tim Lincecum and the Giants on Tuesday.
- Doug Melvin says there will be an announcement regarding Tony Gwynn tomorrow. (Announcement: Tony Gwynn isn't very good.) The announcement is likely that TG has cleared waivers, though a trade isn't out of the question. (When the team goes out of its way to sign Jason Tyner, that can't be a good sign for TG's future with the Brewers.) As a result, it's likely that Duffy and Nelson have then made the team. Yay underdogs!
- Chris Capuano had a setback in his attempt at a comeback. Due to some elbow inflammation, Cappy says he's going to "shut it down for a couple of weeks."
I don't care if Jeff Suppan is pitching, I can't wait for Opening Day.

I know positions in the rotation don't really matter after the first couple weeks
but I was still hoping Macha would come to his senses. I would have at least thrown Bush out there instead of Suppan.

Speaking of Bush
How many inning is he scheduled to pitch in the opener? 1? 3?

If I were
a betting man, I’d throw 4 or more up there…

1 sounds right,
because he would only have 3 days rest before his start if he pitches the fifth game of the season on Saturday, right?

Why waste Bush or Yo against Timmy?
And you never know Soup might get lucky and win 7-6 ;)

I think Bush or Gallardo would have a better chance to get lucky.
Also, Lincecum probably will only pitch about six innings; most teams don’t let their pitchers throw a ton of pitches/innings their first game out. I would think Bush or Gallardo or even Parra would have a much better chance at either keeping the game tied or within a run or two and give us the best chance to win it in the latter third of the game. That is, if we assume that the Brewers offense, which is still very, very good, doesn’t score anything against Lincecum.

Eh, Suppan’s looked pretty good the last few ST outings. Crew wins that game. 6-3. Put it on the board.

suppan
he has look alright towards the end of spring, and the giants offense isn’t anything special. i think he will keep us in the game

Gwynn
Maybe he’ll become a hitting coach like Dale Sveum.

As far as random guessing
I’ll go with Gwynn “needs to pass a physical for a trade” rather than “will have cleared waivers by the morning.”

i'm surprised there hasn't been a leak
usually there’s a beat writer somewhere who caught wind of negotiations, or a release
