Game Thread #15: Brewers (5-9) at Phillies (6-7)
Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies, Apr 23, 2009 12:05 PM CDT
Now over halfway through their ten-day, nine-game road trip, the Brewers close out a three game series with the Phillies today.
For the Phillies, Cole Hamels takes the mound. The 2008 NLCS and World Series MVP, Hamels finished in the top ten in the NL in ERA, WHIP, IP and strikeouts last season. In 2009, he's 0-1 with an 11.17 ERA and 2.17 WHIP. A big performance from Prince Fielder could be huge for the Brewers today: Fielder is 4-for-15 in his career against Hamels, with two home runs.
Dave Bush will finish the third trip through the rotation for the Brewers. Bush will be making his fourth appearance (third start) of the season today, and has yet to factor in a decision, posting a 5.40 ERA in 13.1 innings. He's also never factored in a decision against the Phillies, posting a 5.88 ERA in six starts.
Game time is at 12:05. Thursday's Game Thread is now open.

Bush
When the Crew won that 1 game against the Phillies, Bush was the winning pitcher. So he does have a decision.

Is borderline Unibomberish.

Can I engage in concurrence with my original statement? Or would that be redundant cuncurrence?
How many recs does it take to trade for a win?
I’d like to give them all to Bush today.

At the very least

Apparently we’re trying to “salvage the rubber game”?

Why couldn’t they say "Right-hander Dave Bush, who beat the Phillies in the playoffs last year, gets the nod today as the Brewers try to finish up their first series win in Philadelphia. Left-hander Cole Hamels, who has an ERA over 11.00, starts for the Phillies."

I like afternoon games
I’m so excited for next week. I’ve got seats just past the Brewers dugout, 2nd row.
Fielder lazy
Bush throws over and Fielder doesn’t even bother trying to tag the runner. He nearly overran the bag on his way back and Fielder would’ve never known it.
Uhhh
I don’t know if it’s worth watching this game. Large strike zone, Hamels with his best stuff. The Brewers aren’t going to be doing much at the plate. We’re gonna need Cy Bush today – he did look good in the first inning.
Lazy all around
Now we see Hart lazy on the way to first base. At least he was fast enough to make up for it.
See...
Braun was lazy on that Home Run Trot

Yeah, really
I was just typing a comment before the HR that said we need to work his pitch count because he’s on today.
Fielder swatted one through the box
Off his pitching arm. He doesn’t look to be in great pain, but they’re not screwing around.
Hamels out
Scary line drive from Fielder. It’ll be interesting to see how much time he’s going to miss from that.
If hit his left arm at 100 mph off Fielder’s bat. If that ball was 18 inches to the left, it goes straight into his face. Being a starting pitcher is crazy sometimes.
yes, but if it was 3 inches to the right
it misses him completely

What's Bush's pitch count so far?
Seems like he’s been fairly efficient.
