SBNation Coverage
Yovani Gallardo pitched a gem tonight, putting together a complete game with five hits and allowing just two runs on Carlos Lee's fourth home run of the season. He struck out seven and walked no one.
The game turned around in the fifth, when the Brewers got five straight singles off Felipe Paulino with two outs to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 advantage. With the exception of Bill Hall, every Brewer position player had a hit and each of the top five hitters in the lineup drove in one run.

I wonder how much the way the Brewers treated him at the end of his career contributes to it

Aside from Ueck
Is there anyone still with the team who was even a team employee back then?
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
Bill Castro has been working with the team in some capacity since he was signed in 1970, I think
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
From his BR Bullpen page
Since his playing career ended, pitcher Bill Castro has held various positions in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. He was a scout from 1985-1987, and the minor league pitching coordinator in 1989-1991. Since 1992 Castro has been a Brewers coach.
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
Sure enough.
So there hasn’t been 100% employee turnover since Coop was wronged, just about 99.5%.

Interesting.
Think that’s driven by the collision at the plate? I tried to watch to see if there was any hint from the Astros that they were pissed about it, but I didn’t see anything.

but is anybody else’s MLB extra innings package sandwiched between the porn channels?
Yeesh
Imagine expecting to see porn and instead getting Prince Fielder.

"The Brewers have homered in 13 of 16 games this season, including 12 of the last 13"
i guess i hadn’t noticed that little stat
conversely
the phillies have allowed a HR in their first 15 games. apparently a record.

Side Note
The T-Rats game tonight in Miller Park was a blast. My dad took a ton of photos for you guys, and I got a good look at Mr. Lawrie. Real fun game.
Hopefully get the pictures uploaded in a FanPost, or FanShot, during the NFL Draft tomorrow.

Yeah, it was alright. I saw Saberilliterate there. I looked at every person in his section, so it happened on a technicality

My favorite moment
Was when Brock Kjeleheeleggaajard hit a BOMB.

That was a monster opposite field job. I was certain no one was hitting the bleachers at this level, but he jacked it. Good thing too because he had a poor game beyond that.
I’d add more to the game, but I think I’ll FanShot all the photos and do a small write up. Funny note, I ran into my old art teacher from high school at the game. Funny how you can run into so many old faces.

Kjeldgaard didn't have a poor game
He looked bad in his first two at-bats, grounding out weakly and striking out meekly, but after the bomb (and he destroyed that ball), he walked a couple times, including once with the bases loaded. He’s got a good idea of what he’s doing up there and I hope the Brewers promote him aggressively if he has a good half-season at Appleton.
Peralta had really good stuff. He was working at 94 and got swings-and-misses on his mid-80s slider and even a couple on his changeup, which is a great sign. Cody Adams wasn’t nearly as impressive, working mostly at 88.
Lawrie had three infield singles, which is one more single than he had all year coming into the game. At least one should have been an error and another perhaps a FC, but he also hit a rocket that found leather, so I guess it kind of evens out. He made an error trying to catch and swipe at the same time on a throw that was behind him from the catcher on a SB attempt, but he also showed pretty good range, once ranging deep into short right field and almost throwing the guy out. Great arm.
Marseco is the smallest guy I’ve ever seen on a pro baseball field. He looks like a Little Leaguer. He actually hit a ball to the wall, which is pretty amazing considering his listed weight of 145 is almost certainly wishful thinking, It would be nice to see him move up the chain in concert with the crop of pitching prospects on the T-Rats because he seems like a really solid defensive SS.
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
I was thinking the same thing about Marseco – There is no way that he weighs more than 120. Which makes that ball he his even more impressive… especially if he isn’t done growing yet

And the jerkoff in right field didn’t bother to realize that the ball bounced back to the outfield.

Trevor Hoffman blew a save in Nashville
Of course, it was only the seventh inning. He gave up a single, a double, a sac fly, another fly out and then a strikeout to end the inning. He threw seventeen pitches, eleven for strikes.

To put the final touch on a great night

Curious about thoughts on the Cameron collision
The Astros radio PBP guy called it “incredibly bush” and said, “we don’t play the game that way” (this was when Cam came up in the 8th, so not even in the heat of the moment). I thought that was quite a bit over the top. But he was out by a mile, and it was a violent collision.
Thoughts? (I know it’s way too late, but I thought I’d try before this game gets buried on the site)
"The fans booing here, but that's a clean play. That's just good hard-nosed baseball by Mike Cameron."
That’s what the Astros TV crew said; watch/listen here. I’ll try to upload a version with more commentary and replays tomorrow, because in the “highlight” as provided by MLBAM, there isn’t even a single replay. For shame, web clip editor guy.
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
As for my personal thoughts
“Mr. Parkman, you’re a great ballplayer, but I’d just like to say that you’re standing on the tracks and the train’s coming through.”
That’s what happens when you block the plate.
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
The Astros' reactions
“I think it was the right play, because I was blocking the plate and he didn’t have anywhere to go,” Quintero said. “That’s why he hit me.”
“I don’t think it was that cheap a shot,” manager Cecil Cooper said. “The guy’s standing right on the plate. You’ve got to hit him. That’s what you’ve got to do. You have to jar the ball loose. I don’t think it was a dirty play.”
Geoff Blum, a former teammate of Cameron, said he had never known the Brewers outfield to be the kind of player who would purposely injure an opponent. As far as being aggressive, however, “that’s what he does,” Blum said.
“He’s never been a guy to shy away from contact,” Blum continued. “The throw beat him by a mile, and you can say 20 different things. That fact of the matter is ‘Q’ made a great play, ultimately, I think. They both paid the price.”
Blum also acknowledged that Cameron’s intentions would understandably be questioned.
“I had the angle down the third-base line where Cammy was running,” Blum said. "For me, personally, if I see a catcher moving to the outside, I’m going to try and go inside and score the run. I’m not worried about trying to hit the guy, once it’s a bang-bang play and he’s standing right on top of the plate. But that’s me. I’m not Mike.
“I think Mike is a good, hard aggressive player. I don’t think he’s a dirty player at all. He’s going to play hard. He went in hard. Q being a catcher, he knew what he was in for and took the blow and unfortunately it knocked him out of the game. It was a great play by Q.”
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
The Astos need to stop whining

Not to put words in BK's mouth
But I think BK showed most of those quotes to demonstrate that there wasn’t a lot of whining going on.

agreed
the last quote was the only semi-whiny one, and that wasn’t whiny as much as explainatory.

Good to know the Astros radio guys were the exception.
Kind of strange that we have the whole team and their TV guys who are OK with it (publicly at least), while the radio guys were not just mildly upset, but downright livid.

I was listening a bit to the Astros broadcast on XM
I was only listening on and off, but I got the impression that they thought it could have gone either way. They didn’t seem to fault Cameron from the part I heard. They seemed to think he coould have gone around him, but didn’t seem to think it was out of line. Maybe I missed something else.
Did you guys see Quintero out in the bullpen in the 8th?
Cameron had a long fly ball that he caught. Quintero held out his arms and smiled at him. No bad blood at all. It’s hilarious to watch if you guys have mlb.tv
