Great news. Doug Melvin also "indicated Cain might be in the conversation to make the club next year" to Tom H.

Whew

I’ve been hoping to see him starting CF next year

Although if Cam keeps playing the way he is now, I certainly wouldn’t mind bring him back for next year

"my goodness"

He'd be worth offering arb. to, then.

We could at least get a draft pick out of it.

Maybe...

Unless he ends up Type A. Giving up your 1st round pick for a 37yr old CF with a history of striking out might be a tough sell. I suppose there might be some team somewhere that would take that risk though.

Maybe.

If he’s a Type A or Type B, I think we’ll offer him arb anyway. If he declines it, that’s his decision. Somebody will sign him. It’s just a matter of how much they’ll pay.

or we get stuck with him for 12 million (assuming a 20% raise or so)

with huge arbriration raises for more of the team and Riske’s contract still around, Hall getting more money, Suppan still getting paid… financially I dont think the Brewers can have his contract next year without the team having a payroll in the 90 million range

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

Sure, but if he's having a great year...

he should be eminently tradeable in the offseason, even with a big arb contract. After all, that team then wouldn’t have to give up a draft pick.

Awesome.

If we can’t resign Cam for a one-year contract or anything, we’re going to need Cain getting some playing time this season.

Fantastic news.

:) + Suppan = :'(
