SB Nation Coverage
After surrendering two runs in the first, the Brewers ran out to an early 5-2 lead tonight and for a while it looked like they'd never look back, until Carlos Villanueva allowed two runs in the top of the eighth and the game was tied at 5. The mood didn't remain sober for long, however, as the Brewers sent ten batters to the plate in the bottom half of the inning, plating five runs and building a nice cushion for Trevor Hoffman's first Brewer appearance.
Braden Looper threw over 100 pitches in five innings, but allowed just two runs on six hits and four walks. Mark DiFelice, Mitch Stetter and Todd Coffey combined to pitch two scoreless innings, and Hoffman pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Brewers drew eight walks in the game, allowing them to score ten runs on just eight hits. Prince Fielder was the only Brewer with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a triple.

Maybe
But we’re only half a game behind the Cubs. The Cards will come back to the pack when they start going on the road, and the Pirates and Reds…well, they’re the Pirates and Reds.
I guess it’s silly to be standings-watching this early, but I’m a little encouraged that the Cubs are only 9-9. :)
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
Big news
Jason Kendall became the first Brewer in 2009 to score two runs in a game without a base hit.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
Weeks confirms that the team has their slugger swagger back.
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.

completely off whatever topic we had
but I’m watching the Giants right now and they have Barry Bonds in the booth. Someone needs to hire him as a broadcaster NOW. Of course, the minute that would happen, he’d stop having actual insights.
you guys rocked tonight
I wish I would have stopped in.

It's the first time i've ever put money on baseball
Now that basketball’s almost over, I thought I’d try it out. So I picked the Dodgers to beat the Zitos.
poor choice
they aren’t even the fighting Eugenios tonight
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
Cubs game
The Cubs have a gigantic fan base. They filled half the ballpark in Arizona, to watch Dan Haren’s gem. After the game, Mark Grace said somebody will be buying him dinner tonight. Darren Sutton followed that with, “Maybe all the money that the Cubs fans spent here tonight”
This is pretty funny
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Chuck Finder clearly has no idea what the word “erstwhile” means:
The Brewers continued their pox on the Pirates last night, rapping three home runs in as many innings early and rocking an otherwise erstwhile bullpen with a five-run eighth to prolong their winning streaks with a 10-5 triumph in front of 32,198 patrons inside their retractable-roof edifice.Haha, someone’s trying to sound smart and failing miserably.

damn
perhaps the bullpen does not otherwise exist anymore?

Yep, who knows...
Maybe those pitchers just come spontaneously into existence when the bullpen phone rings. They should schedule sufficient warmup time in the future, perhaps, or it won’t be the last five-run inning.
Pox, erstwhile, and edifice, all in one sentence? Wow.
Scored three times and detonated an indisputable in four visits to the batting box.
with rapping in a rare usage
prolong and patrons as well.

Hope for the future?
Weeks and Cameron seem to be the anchors of the team for once
Definitely worried about Villenueva
He really hasn’t gotten it going at all this season. I hope he works it out, because he was one of the team’s best relievers last year. I was really looking forward to a ’pen with McClung, Ville and Hoffman (and Coffey to a lesser extent, but to a much greater extent now).
Booing
I never understood the point of booing someone for simply not performing. If the guy is putting out his best effort and not producing what is the point of booing him? In all likelihood it’ll make him feel worse and probably exacerbate the problem. If we are in the stands at Miller Park we are there to support the team and if those players know that they won’t be booed mercilessly just because they strike out in a big spot their confidence can only go up.
I always felt booing your own team was incredibly selfish. “You didn’t do what I wanted you to so I’m going to make you feel like crap.” It exemplifies what bothers me most about our fan base and that’s this whole “what have you done for me lately” attitude.
Boo the other team, not your own.
Overreaction rant over.
It is what it is.
I will boo my own team
until you change that awful signature
