Well. That answers that. Lamb also cleared waivers, and the Brewers claimed 1st baseman Joe Koshansky from (who else?) the Rangers.

Wasn’t Koshansky a pretty big power hitting prospect for the Rockies a couple years ago?

Looked good last year in AAA

With 30 some HRs

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

True...

but Colorado Springs is a luanching pad. It’s not as bad as Salt Lake, Vegas, or Albequerque, but it’s up there.

I just sit back and root for the taser

Moderately big

He was always old for his levels though.

He's been stuck in Colorado Springs the past 2 years

hit a .297/.380/.542 line those years. Now granted, Colorado springs is a launching pad, but he’s definitely good insurance.

This is getting weird

4 days as a Ranger is enough to get Melvin to sign him. How much further will Melvin sink in his obsession? .

AAA

Boy is it going to get crowded down there. I’m guessing Lamb will split time with Koshansky at first and get the occasional spot start for Gamel. I can’t say I’m a fan of Gwynn taking ab’s away from some of the younger guys, should be interesting to see how it all works out.

BCB, the preferred above replacement level sarcasm supplier.

Is it possible for him to ask

And the Brewers say no

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

It's possible, but not likely

The Brewers have no real reason to keep him around and unhappy riding buses in AAA. I guess if he doesn’t get any interest from other teams, the Brewers $1MM to ride a bus for the summer may be better than retirement.

Nope

A player who has either been outrighted once in the past or has three years of service time can refuse a minor league assignment and become a free agent.

Gwynn

I don’t want to hear anything ever again about how Gwynn should be the starting center fieilder. Can the greater BCB community agree to this?

I think we can.

hindsight's a bitch

" If we trade Gamel/LaPorta or Fielder for a rental starter

I’m going to throw something through me tv. This is not a team that’s one starter away from contending in my opinion, and I can’t see giving up something significant for a rental pitcher just to stay in the wildcard race.

You know...

Duffy should be the starting centerfielder.

:)

"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

Ugh

OK, Tom.

We should get the “Rickie Weeks for CF in 2010” ball rolling here.

Uh oh

What happens to former top prospect Scott Thorman?

How far will this one fly?

by Rendezvous on Apr 3, 2009 4:06 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

He'll get offered the everyday third base job in Huntsville

Thus sparking another tense wait to hear from Melvin about Vinny Rottino’s future with the organization.

I have the Racine connection with Rottino

But after a certain point, it may be time to pursue a different role. Maybe he’ll take over for Marcus Hanel in the bullpen.
