25%
That's the ratio of earned runs allowed by CC Sabathia in his Yankees debut (6) to earned runs allowed by the big man in his 130.7 Brewers innings last year (24).

Can he just not pitch in April?
Ian Kennedy or Kei Igawa could have did that…in fact, being in Baltimore, Igawa may have done better.

Cliff Lee commiserates
It took him until May 18th last year to give up as many earned runs as he did today (7).
Bad Indian.
jeff: but i shudder to think of the bullpen analogy to sending the runner

If CC does that in the regular season debut of New Yankees Stadium, he’s going to be very popular want to have considered pitching in a place with less media pressure and focus on him to drive home the largest pitching contract ever….
That said, boy was it awesome to see baseball back today :)

Um, don’t you remember? He signed in New York because there’d be too much pressure in Milwaukee.

I'd be upset for him...
… if he wasn’t wearing the Yankees uniform. I can’t root for him to fail after last year, but let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed to see his line for his first start.

Suppan’s Opening Day Start: Better or Worse than CC’s?
by Mykenk on Apr 7, 2009 9:31 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
better
Might not have a strikeout, but you never know against this Giant lineup… I think Suppan will go for 6 innings allow 3 runs… if the weather permits the game to be played
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

At least when Suppan pitches a bad game
you don’t feel disappointed. Just resigned.
Given how much we’re paying him, I wonder how badly he’d have to pitch this season to be removed from the rotation.

Here's my question
Giving how much we are paying him, if he is eventually released can we just pay all his remaining salary up-front or does it have to be paid like the contract states? I’m curious because of this thought I had involving a hypothetical situation where the Crew is out of it by the deadline and ends up trading Prince and possibly Cameron for prospects. With the reduction in salary wouldn’t it make a ton of sense to dump Suppan and try to work out a deal where we pay him next years salary this year, thus giving us a ton more room next year in salary flexibility. I’m sure this isn’t allowed by the players union or something, but I’m just brainstorming what will happen to Soup if this is the way he performs the whole year.
BCB, the preferred above replacement level sarcasm supplier.

Interesting.
A. I doubt it.
B. I don’t see why Suppan would agree to that.
C. I don’t know if Attanasio would want to spend extra money in an unstable economy.
If we are out of it, but still getting a ton of fans, it’s possible that this would be a spending option to look at instead of bringing in another player at the deadline.

check that
B. Suppan might agree to that, unless we tried to adjust the numbers for inflation.
$12MM now is worth more than $12MM next year.
