A New Weapon: Brewers' Jeffress adds two-seamer
"Jeffress is challenging himself to evolve from thrower to full-fledged pitcher, with plans to scrap at times the ole No. 1 and instead dust off a two-seamer that he employed occasionally last season.
'I'm probably going to work on that as my out-pitch this year,' Jeffress was saying in spring training. 'I started throwing it last year at Brevard County and then at Huntsville. I think it's pretty good. If you throw it right, it has a tendency to run. I'm just going to let it do its own thing.'"

Wouldn't it be nice...
This is some sweet music after Suppan’s performance yesterday.

Everyone should be really excited about Jeffress
I can’t wait for the minors to start.
jeff: but i shudder to think of the bullpen analogy to sending the runner

Gallardo, Parra, Jeffress
Sure would make a nice 1,2,3 come 2011 or so.

Might as well round it off with a free agent signing of Zack Greinke.

Sorry to be the pessimist but....
Until I see Jeffress perform above A ball and outside of the pitcher friendly confines of Space Coast stadium I won’t/can’t buy into him being the savior of the rotation.
AA Last Year
15 IP 5.81 FIP1.87 WHIP 0.298 AVE and a 6.6 W/9 and an almost 1:1 W:K ratio
His Brevard County numbers are ok – but certainly not tearing it up considering that he is the second coming playing in a pitchers league in a pitchers park
81.7 IP 3.31 FIP 1.31 WHIP 4.52 W/9 and 11.2 K/9
Sorry just to pessimistic to be be excited with those numbers. The only reason that he is labeled as a prospect is that he throws 97 MPH
Compare numbers and hype to Chris Cody
A+ in Brevard
119 IP 3.51 FIP 0.96 WHIP 2.11 K/9 7 K/9
or how about Mike McClendon
A+ in Brevard
93.3 IP 3.39 FIP 1.28 WHIP 1.45 W/9 5.88 K/9
Both of their big negatives are that they old (25 and 24) and that they doesn’t throw 107 MPH
Jeffress will begin to age as well this year as he turns 22 and is entering his fourth year of pro ball… but he throws a 101 MPH change up… Otherwise he was league average last year in the FL State League. League Averages for FSA – 1.34 WHIP, 3.4 W/9, 7.2 K/9 2.14 K:W
All I am saying is…. Can we wait until he throws more than 100 innings in a season? Or how about wait until performs at expectation above high A ball?

Edit....
Sorry just to pessimistic to be be excited with those numbers.

I hear you, he's not exactly going David Price on everybody
but…11+ K/9?
If you’re in the starting rotation at an age-appropriate level and you are striking out 11 per 9, you are a big time prospect. I don’t care if your ERA is also 11.
Also, the park at Brevard is weird — it is a pitcher’s park, but it kills righty hitters, not lefty hitters. It’s actually favorable to lefty hitters, especially their power stats. So for RHPs, who are going to be hit harder by LHBs anyway, it’s not at all a pitcher’s paradise.
Also, cheese.

11 K/9 is a great line…. but it isn’t the only part of the line. Especially in A+ ball.
Don’t get me wrong… I do see his upside – but until he actually performs and gets results – it is all potential.
It is kind of like being a Cubs fan – the potential to win a WS for the last decade – but have not won a playoff game since George Bush’s first term and won a total of 9 playoff games since WWII ended…
