JS cribs notes from Elias; gets factoid wrong
Timely as ever, the Journal Sentinel arrives on the scene with a neat bit of trivia about Gallardo's performance yesterday:
Gallardo became the third pitcher in major-league history to win a 1-0 game while recording at least 10 strikeouts. Gallardo had 11 Wednesday, Early Wynn of the Chicago White Sox did it in 1959 with 14 strikeouts and Red Ruffing of the New York Yankees did it in 1932 with 12.But wait a second...haven't we read that somewhere else in the, oh, day and a half since Wednesday's game? Oh yeah, Kyguy922 pointed it out in today's Mug, and Elias posted it on Wednesday.
But wait another second...isn't there something else to that factoid? Wouldn't you think that, off the top of your head, maybe more than two pitchers had won 1-0 games while striking out >10 in the entire history of Major League Baseball? Let's re-examine Elias' post more closely:
Gallardo was only the third pitcher in major-league history to win a game 1-0 while recording at least 10 strikeouts and hitting a home run.Oh right! I had forgotten already what made Wednesday's game so special. Way to go, JS. This is why newspapers will never die.

LolTrado
And this is why the JS bashing will never die.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Yeah, there's no way they searched through the records for all of the 1-0 games
McCalvy does a great job of passing along interesting things he finds online…. BECAUSE HE CITES THEM.
