Braun-Dempster incident under review
From Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune:
Milwaukee manager Ken Macha questioned Dempster's intentions on Sunday during an interview with local media before the Cubs-Brewers finale, suggesting an investigation was warranted.
MLB sources confirmed Monday afternoon that the Dempster-Braun incident is currently under review.

end result will be
Braun must surrender his HBP, we surrender the game.
all our bases are belong to the New York/Chicago/LA/Boston media conglomerate
I really wish the Brewers wouldn't do this.
I will make this clear, I don’t like showboating.
You know you just beat someone, you don’t have to show them up. (yes that includes soriano, I can’t stand it that he does it aswell)
So I don’t like it that Braun went excessive around the bases, however he clearly believed that he was being thrown at, so the homerun was big to him and I can understand it. I think Cub fans are just mad that we got beat. The way I look at it is the Cubs are winning the season series.
More to the point, why draw any more attention to the subject like this?
What good will this do the Brewers?
I have to agree
Dempster nearly fell of the mound on that pitch and it really seemed unintentional. It won’t do any good. Why continue to make it an issue.

Isn't the season series 3-3 now?
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
I think he means this will motivate the cubs to beat the brewers
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
that's how i read it too

I'm pretty sure they've got all the motivation for that they need already.
Doesn’t mean I think this is good idea though.

I don’t get it. Braun didn’t appear to be put out with the HBP if his media comments were any indication, and we all know what he’s like after home runs. Also, Dempster wasn’t exactly having pinpoint control that day, and he nearly fell off the mound after delivering that pitch that hit Braun.
I'm not sure what you mean
Braun was very obvious pissed about it during the game, and said this after:
“If somebody throws at your face, that’s your livelihood,” Braun said. "I really don’t think that he did it intentionally, but if you throw at my face, you throw at my face. From everything I’ve heard, Dempster is a great guy and I highly doubt he did it intentionally. Regardless, it’s not fun.
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
Braun nearly got himself in trouble after the last HBP, threatening retaliation and whatnot.
After that, Macha probably told him to keep his mouth shut and let him handle it. As such, this time Braun is quietly carrying on and Macha is sending the message.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
The impression I got
Is he didn’t think it’s intentional, but was still pretty upset about it. I guess that does sound kind of contradictory, but I can understand it—even if it’s an accident, it’s an accident that’ll still scare the crap out of you.
Brewers Baseball and other assorted nonsense (mostly the assorted nonsense) at my blog, What's a Tararrel?
On Saturday I had a T-Baller nearly club me in the arm with a metal bat
After I placed the ball on the Tee for him but before I could step back. He just started swinging. I managed to jerk clear (fortunately) just before the barrel of the bat passed through the space my left arm had just vacated. Clearly not intentional, but it still could have shattered my elbow.
I would have charged the little monster ;)
Let me spell it for you Cub fans O N E H U N D R E D A N D O N E Y E A R S
his face is his livelihood?
I thought it was his timing and musculature.
but i guess he’s looking forward to his next career as a makeup model.

kind of hard to hit a baseball if you're having trouble seeing after being hit in the head
players’ careers have ended that way
"Cubs fans boo again – 99% of these people can’t see the plate." -Ueck
yeah, concussions can end careers, as well.
See: Graffanino. The mental damage of getting hit in the head can be bad as well. Part of being a great athlete is fearlessness. You can’t go into the box being afraid to get hit in the head. Hell, even hitting somebody else in the head can be devastating. See: Matt Wise.
do you mean koske?
graffinino is still playing, right? although he may have recently been DFA’d back to AAA.
yes, I agree that his whole head is his livelihood, but the way he phrased it made it sound like his jaw was the priceless part.

Graffanino
ended his career by failing at baseball, not a concussion.
Sigh
So which Marlins pitcher will be fined next week for getting on Braun’s bad side?
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
as long as he turns the motivation into HRs, I'm OK.
For the record, the Marlins’ starters are John Koronka (up from AAA, meaning he’ll probably throw a shutout), Nolasco, and J Johnson. None of these three pitchers have ever hit Braun. But surely one of them has at the very least missed the strike zone on the inside part of the plate, right? That could be proper motivation. The last Marlin to hit Braun was Byung-Hyun Kim shortly after Braun’s call up in 2007 — a mere two years ago.
Come on Braunie! Payback time!
It's like warning the dugouts
I don’t know that anyone believes the Dempster was intentional, but a formal inquiry on this one is like sending a dugout warning to the rest of the league. The next guy to retaliate a little too high on Braun may be staring down a 6-game suspension.
