Gamel on his way to Milwaukee
I just got it confirmed from a very good source in Nashville that Brewers third base prospect Mat Gamel is on his way to Milwaukee.
I called general manager Doug Melvin and he said he couldn't talk about it at this time, so it must be true.
"I might be able to say something after the game," said Melvin, referring to the Brewers' contest tonight against Florida at Miller Park. "But I might not."
Melvin did tell me that no trade has been made, so you can forget any talk that Bill Hall has been traded to make room for Gamel. It might be as simple as Gamel coming up to provide a better left-handed bat on the bench than Brad Nelson, who is 0-for-21, including 0-for-14 as a pinch-hitter.
Sounds like a roster move is coming before tomorrow's afternoon game...or Mike Rivera just needed a very high-profile guy to carry his luggage.

shocker
I am excited to see what he can do here in Milwaukee, just as a DH most likely, much like Prince a few years ago.. and go back down after all NL teams are on the schedule.
Seems a little early, but I am excited!
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

The timing suggest he is not being called up merely to be a temporary DH
It seems like the team waited just long enough to delay his free agency by a year.

true
But the Crew have 4 players who can play 3B… are they going to give Prince a rest and try Gamel at first for some action? Maybe he will make some pinch hitting appearances for Kendall late in the game starting tomorrow when Rivera comes back!

Counsell can play third base, but he can play a lot of other places too
I think Gamel and Hall will fall into a rough platoon and Counsell will resume being a utility infielder.

Plot twist!
Scored three times and detonated an indisputable in four visits to the batting box.

Hmmm.
Sooo when Catalonatto comes up, who’s the other player being sent down? Duffy or McGehee? I’m assuming that Nelson is going to be the one cut for Gamel. Either way, I sure hope they play Gamel pretty regularly if he is up for the rest of the season, otherwise it would be much better for him to play every day in Nashville.
:) + Suppan = :'(

Perhaps Cat is not guaranteed to come up

We will see
But the bench looks pretty solid now if Gamel/ Cat / Counsell are coming off the bench instead of Nelson/Duffy/McGehee as the first options

Neslon Can't Be
…“sent down”…he can be designated for assignment, and since he’s out of options, he has to be exposed to waivers. I’m not sure he’ll make it through waivers. He may have had a poor start, but it’s a small sample size. Plus he has a lot of years worth of service left (IE, he’s cheap). I bet someone will pluck him off the waiver wire.
