Yeah, 18

Three doubles in two days, too, though one was on a grounder. Nice to see Chris Dennis get a double and walk in his first game back.

Very encouraging start from Scarpetta. Something interesting from the article about him KL linked in the Mug:

Against the LumberKings, he offset his fastball with a solid changeup and mixed in the occasional curve.
I guess that means the organization is asking him to work on his changeup; if he can be that good without his curveball for the most part, I’m pretty excited.

"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.

Kevin Goldstein on Scarpetta:

An 11th-round pick in 2007, the Brewers signed Scarpetta knowing that he’d need surgery to repair a tendon in his pitching hand. Since getting healthy, the 20-year-old has showcased a 91-94 mph power sinker and plus hard curveball, and he’s overpowering Midwest League hitters, limiting them to a .194 batting average on the season while recording 38 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. At six-foot-three and 240 pounds, he’s built to last, and if he can harness his control a bit more, he could move way up the prospect charts.

"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.

Hopefully

Salome is starting to get his swing back. That’s 3 straight multi-hit games.

BCB, the preferred above replacement level sarcasm supplier.

It looks like it.

I hadn’t seen him prior to this season, so I don’t know what his swing was like before. But now the balls are starting to drop for hits for Salome where they weren’t before, so maybe he’ll get more confidence.

My other observation about Salome is that he doesn’t seem to have that high of a baseball IQ, which is not something you want from a catcher. For example, Salome seems to be unaware of the concept of appealing a check-swing.

Maybe he's just being polite

Catchers can request an appeal, but only the umpire can ask for one. Maybe he’s just requesting verbally rather than annoying the umpire by pointing.

"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.

Could be the case

But if he is, the umps are rarely granting it.
