typical protocal is you don't mention a no hitter
once 1 hit is in, you can talk about it as much as you want

Randolph had almost no experience as a 3B
If Don Money couldn’t/can’t “fix” Gamel, nobody can.

That's what I thought
he’s doing fine today, at least.
(is there such a thing as a general infield coach at the major league level?)
not exactly
but I think the Brewers situation is common — if you think you need an infield coach, you get a bench coach, or a hitting coach, or whatever, who can do that too.
Also, cheese.

Well, WE probably doesn't take into account momentum.
Our brains, however, do. We would believe it if we had just hit a grand slam to go up by 3 runs.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, ""That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
The stats all make sense...
in retrospect. But have nothing to do at all with the result yet to occur.
In the same way batting average or on base percentage don't
The whole based on what’s happened before, here’s how likely such and such will happen thing…
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
there's a difference, though. Or maybe just my question:
in that, how does Win Expectancy figure out what changes managers make after a particular point on the graph…
Maybe they fancied it up now, but I think this is how it works:
WE just looks at the situation and how often a team has gone on to win in the past.
If 1000 games in MLB history have had the home team with runners on first and second, down 3 runs with two out in the 7th, and the home team has gone on to win 150 times, that is a win expectancy of 15% for the home team. It doesn’t take into account what moves the manager might make in this game, instead relying on the quantity of those 1000 games to come up with the percentage.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
Is it based on actual history or a statistical model?

True, but it gives you a baseline to judge on
i.e., if you know that with bases loaded and 2 out, x runs will score y% of the time to begin with, and then you see that Braun or Fielder is up, you can think, “Well, we’d already have a y% chance of picking up some runs, and now we’ve got an even better chance with a hitter like that up.” Or so forth.

But up four runs in the eighth is not a high leverage AB, so why not let Gamel get some work?
