An Early Morning Factoid
The Brewers' first 11 games (3 wins, 8 losses):
- 45 runs, 4.1 runs/game, 13 home runs
- Overall: 79 H in 356 AB, .222 average
- without Runners in Scoring Position (RISP): 61 H in 274 AB, .223 average
- with RISP: 18 H in 82 AB, .220 average
The Brewers' last 12 games (9 wins, 3 losses):
- 56 runs, 4.7 runs/game, 16 home runs
- Overall: 112 H in 403 AB, .278 average
- without RISP: 86 H in 301 AB, .286 average
- with RISP: 26 H in 102 AB, .255 average
The Brewers scored fewer runs to start the year, but their average with RISP was as bad as their average without.
Then hits started falling in and wins started coming, all while the team hit 30 points lower with RISP than without. Go figure.

What does it all mean?
I’d say the Brewers are a free-swinging, streaky-hitting group and this collection of comparative stats tends to “prove” that assertion, especially the RISP comparison. On the other hand, I could be wrong…. ;-)
Three kinds of untruths: lies, damned lies and statistics. On the other hand, facts don’t lie.
The win column is my favorite stat. Go, Crew!!
