Scarpetta
walked 3 guys in the first inning and was all over the place, but he got out of it. He must have thrown 30-35 pitches in the first. I did see him hit 93 several times, and then he settled in at about 91 and I think he was throwing a 2-seam around 88.
Lawrie absolutely spanked a ball to deep right-center in the third, and two runners got thrown out at home. I have no idea how it only ended up as a single for Lawrie. It was sad, the two runners were about 10 feet apart and neither of them had a chance to be safe.
Other news— Jose Duran blasted a ball to deep right, Lawrie looked good on defense at second, and Dykstra doubled off a guy with a strike to first from center field.
Scored three times and detonated an indisputable in four visits to the batting box.
Wow, I didn't even notice that
Brett Lawrie singles on a fly ball to right fielder Jerry Sands. Double play, right fielder Jerry Sands to second baseman Jaime Pedroza to catcher Anthony Delmonico. Cutter Dykstra out at home. Juan Sanchez out at home.
Somewhere Dale Berra is smiling.
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
Amazingly, Gorman Thomas was a part of two similar plays, both times as the second out at the plate
At Kansas City on 8/28/1979 the Brewers played the Royals. With Milwaukee batting in the top of the 8th inning, Sal Bando singled to Willie Wilson; Cecil Cooper hit a ground ball to Frank White at second base. [Sal Bando out at second on a force play]; Gorman Thomas walked [Cecil Cooper to second]; Ben Oglivie hit a double to Amos Otis [Cecil Cooper out at home on a throw from Otis to White to Darrell Porter], Gorman Thomas, on the heels of Cooper, tagged out at home by Porter. On July 9, 1985 a game between between the Blue Jays and the Mariners at Seattle. In the Mariners 3rd Phil Bradley was on second when Gorman Thomas singled. Bradley was tagged out at home (on a throw from Jesse Barfield to Buck Martinez in a collision where Martinez breaks his ankle); Buck Martinez, while sitting on the ground in agony, throws to 3B to nab Gorman Thomas. The throw is wild and goes into left field. Gorman Thomas streaks home. George Bell (LF) retrieves the ball and throws it back to Buck Martinez (who is still seated on the ground) who in turn tags Gorman Thomas. Score remains tied 0-0.

Really nice to see Braddock back on the mound and pitching well

Martinez
Props to Buck for manning up and finishing the play despite the busted ankle.
Sanchez
I am not familiar with Juan Sanchez. Don’t recall him being considered a top prospect, but his numbers look intriguing in Appleton. Perhaps he is emerging…?
He was taken in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 Draft from the Twins organization
He’s almost 22.5, so he’s really old for A-ball.

Butler
All off season I kept reading about the lack of pitching in the MKE system. In all of that talk I don’t recall hearing much about Joshua Butler. I realize he’s in a pitcher-friendly league, but he seems to be showing some promise.
He's been quite unimpressive
He was a second-round pick of the (Devil) Rays in 2006; the Brewers got him for Gabe Gross last year. This is his third year in A+ and his peripherals have been generally lackluster: a15/12 K/BB in 27.3 innings from a 24-year-old repeating his league is pretty somnolent.
