Leading Off Against Lefties...
...Casey McGehee?
"I went home the other night thinking if Counsell isn't leading off, who my leadoff man is going to be," Macha said. "So that is a bit of a problem. "When we face a left-handed pitcher, I'm going to say Casey will probably lead off."
Hart, Cameron, and Hardy were brought up alternate options. However, Macha said Hart is slumping, he doesn't want to mess with Hardy's turnaround, and he prefers Cameron protect Braun and Fielder.

As much as I want to get upset about this...
Because, come on, it’s Casey McGehee, the guy who didn’t hit until spring 2009, I’m not too bothered. Maybe it’s because the team faces lefties only about a quarter of the time, or maybe it’s because no team in the Central has a rotation stacked with LHP.
And hey, after the first inning we can pretend the pitcher is batting eighth!

Could be worse
You could be resorting to Joe Dillon playing DH for you… wait the Rays are doing that today for the 3rd day in a row. Not exactly your prototypical DH in the AL.

McGehee has at the very least been good at drawing the walk as of late. Or so it seems when I’ve watched him

He's a run scorer duh
Hasn’t he scored all 5 of his runs in about 8 or 9 starts. The man is obviously taking up the mantle that Weeks left when he got injured.

I can’t argue with what Macha is saying. Cam is doing well behind Fielder, Hart has been sucking on a Moose’s teet and Hardy is just now starting to swing the bat. That leaves Kendall, Hall or McGehee…. it is the lesser of 3 evils…

Iribarren?
Why is Iribarren hardly mentioned in the current 2B discussion?
He is batting .330 at AAA has good speed and should offer decent defense as well?

Well, Iribarren is left-handed, so he's not really in the discussion of who should play second or lead off against lefties
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.

plus
he truly looks outclassed in the bigs.

Left yes, but in general?
Yes he is left-handed, but I mean the 2B discussion in general.
Was like last year when DiFelice had great numbers and it took very long time until he got a real chance at the big leagues.
I don’t say Iribarren is the 100 % perfect solution, but I’d give him a chance. He’s much better than Escobar at the moment IMHO.

Escobar's not even with the Brewers
No one (that I’ve seen) is saying Escobar should be the second baseman. You want to know who I think should be getting a shot instead of Casey McGehee? Here’s your man.

Escobar - Heether
I knwo Escobar is not with the Brewers. But there were quite a number of people who said he should get the call.
Heether’s stats look fine. Even has some power.
But I still like Iribarren ;)
I’m also not against McGehee, but I’d like someone with speed …

Heether is also more of a true utility man, with the ability to play shortstop
Having a right-handed counterpart to Craig Counsell would be pretty useful.

Due to the lack-of-mug today
I’ll post this here:
the gritty bastard Reed Johnson just had a bunt RBI hit with two outs in the 3rd against the dodgers.
bastard. making it tough to fly the flag today.

If it works... great
but this sounds Nedly-esque
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
