Brewers 9, Reds 5
W: Seth McClung (2-1)
L: Aaron Harang (5-5)
MVP: Prince Fielder (+.296)
LVP: Dave Bush (-.298)
(Or, you know, Aaron Harang and his -.602)
Win Expectancy Graph
SBNation Coverage
This one started out ugly when Dave Bush gave up two first inning home runs and the Brewers were down 3-0. Prince Fielder hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first while going 3-for-his-first-3, tying it up and giving Dave Bush a new lease on the game. It didn't help.
Bush was out of the game before the fifth inning having given up seven hits and five ER, though he did tag Chris Dickerson out at home after a wild pitch.
Seth "Irish Coffey" McClung came in and pitched three solid innings, giving up just two hits while getting two strikeouts.
The Brewers put six runs on the board in the fifth inning when they went through the order and then some. Ryan Braun and Mike Cameron both homered while Bill Hall and Mike Rivera doubled and Corey Hart and Prince Fielder singled. Even McClung reached first on a wild pitch after striking out.
This game featured 25 total hits - 16 for the Brewers and nine for the Reds - and broke the Brewers' streak of 10 games of scoring four or fewer runs.
Prince Fielder's three RBI put him in the NL lead at 48.

Great.
Who’s going to tell the gigantic Scotsman with a history of beaning hitters when ordered to do so that we’re going to call him Irish for a joke?

Red hair is a Celtic trait
Which would include both Ireland and Scotland as well as Wales and some parts of England and France.
Don't forget Spain!
Plus the red hair really comes more from the Norse invaders
Celts were more of a dark-haired people. Bloody vikings!

I could be wrong, but
I’m pretty sure that “Mc” means Irish and “Mac” means Scottish. For what it’s worth.

Top hits on Google
There is no difference between Mac, Mc, and M’. You cannot say one form is Scottish and one is Irish.
Firstly, it is complete and under nonsense that Mac and Mc indicate Scottish or Irish origins. They are both EXACTLY the same word, the Mc is actually the abbreviated form of Mac (and sometimes meic) and was usually written M’c (sometimes even M’) with the apostrophe indicating that the name has been abbreviated (there are many other characters indicating abbreviation including two dots under the c).scottishhistory.comThere is however one distinction you can make as far as differentiating between a name being Scottish or Irish. If it is an O’ name it is always Irish (those in Scotland are mostly nineteenth century emigrations), but if it is a mac, mc or other variation it can be both Scottish or Irish!
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
Well nevermind then
I was under the wrong impression, and I went out drinking tonight, so I was (and am) in no shape to verify the correctness of my impression. I apologize.

If we google McClung McClung genealogy
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mcclunghistory/mcclung_web_page.htm
From what that completely unsubstantiated, but pretty, website says, McClung is very likely a Scottish name. However:
Religious strife and tyranny had swept the land, and it was in about 1690 that a band of McClung’s moved with other Scots across the Atlantic narrows to Ireland.
There’s at least a chance that Seth McClung’s great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was one of those that moved to Ireland, so his great-great-great-great-grandfather might have been born in Ireland, even if he’s technically Scottish.
What's "under nonsense"?
I always thought Mac meant highland Scot and Mc meant lowland Scot, but I can’t remember why it is I thought that.
The only place I’ve ever encountered M’ was “Mmm’cookies” and that didn’t have anything to do with Scotsmen.

Stadium Music Guy at the Red Wings/Penguins game
Just rocked the “Don’t Stop Believin” and the whole crowd sang along.
Always do
The ‘born and raised in south Detroit’ is the only reason. Just wait until tomorrow if the Wings are winning late, they will break out “Living on a Prayer” and the entire crowd will be screaming ’We’re half-way there’. And then pelt the ice with octopi.

There’s a South Detroit in South Dakota. Population: 86.

Ha
That reminds me of this game against the Rockies, Cordero’s second save with the Brewers. This is how the 9th went:
- T. Helton tripled to deep center
- Y. Torrealba struck out swinging
- B. Hawpe walked
- L. Gonzalez struck out swinging
- C. Freeman walked, B. Hawpe to second
- C. Sullivan struck out swinging
That leadoff triple was a result of a Tony Gwynn dive-and-miss.

McClung is most likely Scottish

Look under noteworthy people with the name McClung, it wouldn’t let me copy and paste it for some reason. I also found various references to him as a Scottish player with my google search.
