Brandon Phillips: Reds > Brewers
After his team is swept and he strikes out to end the game, Brandon Phillips mentions that he thinks the Reds are better than the Brewers. I'm sure none of us here think that the Reds are a bad team. But the Reds better than the Brewers? Not quite.

I guess that's the type of thing I would want to hear from my players
He remained somewhat critical of his team, despite saying that he thinks they are more talented. We got swept by the twins, but I would like to think that we’re better than them…
I love the Reds pitching staff, but their lineup, especially without Votto has its holes, that’s for sure. And, of course, our bullpen has been operating on all cylinders.

Hey I would hope he said something like that
Being positive about your team after a sweep without being yostian is better than throwing your teammates under the bus. Besdies they are a good team and the last thing I want to see is a reds/brewers series where one team rolls over and dies.

Maybe he meant ">" in a strictly mathematical sense
It could be that he’s a devotee of Yostian mathematics.

or he's comparing losses, ERA or some other "golfscore-like metric"
where having < is actually better

In reading the whole thing I don't see to much to get upset about.
"They executed and that’s why they are in first place," said Phillips. "We were doing it before we came here and we just weren’t the Reds when we came here. They saw us coming (a half game behind the Brewers) right behind them and they knew somebody had to step their game up — either them or us."
Phillips paused and said, "It was them. Hey, they’re a good team, but we’re better."
Sounds like a confident good player calling out his team for playing like garbage…even sounds a bit familiar.
