Reds 6, Brewers 5
W: Micah Owings (2-3)
L: Braden Looper (2-2)
S: Francisco Cordero (8)
HR: Jay Bruce (8), Willy Taveras (1)
MVP: Prince Fielder (+.346)
LVP: Braden Looper (-.397)
There's nothing quite as demoralizing as a long, slow loss. The Brewers fell behind early, as Braden Looper allowed home runs to Jay Bruce and Willy Taveras (!) to make the score 3-0 in the third. They briefly tied the game on a Fielder bases loaded double in the top of the fourth, but the Reds scored again in the bottom half and kept the Brewers just out of reach the rest of the way.
Braden Looper had his worst outing as a Brewer, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks in 3.1 innings. All told, the bullpen (McClung, DiFelice, Stetter, Julio) combined to allow just one run over 4.2 innings to keep the Brewers in the game, but the Brewer bats weren't able to come up with enough to get back into the game.
Fielder, whose two-run double got the Brewers back into the game in the fourth, went 3-for-3 with a walk.

At least our loss was close
and not something horrendous like 15-3

I wonder what Macha will say about that double switch
I bet he had/has no idea McClung doesn’t embarrass the stadium with a bat in his hands.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
I want to see McClung have a plate appearance this year
I just hope he doesn’t forget how to hit (but if he hadn’t forgotten how with 8 years in the Rays org, he won’t)
After the blow out last night.
I figured they would have one of their 0-1 run nights that usually follow them when they blow a team out like that. I was pleasantly surprised that they scored 5 runs.
Now they need to come home and take 2 of 3 from the Cubs and all will be well.
Nice 3-1 mini road trip I will take it

With all the talk about our starters doing well...
I think our bullpen has also been a surprise strength. The whole pitching staff is coming together nicely…even Julio.
Anyone have stats since Riske went on the DL?
everything is coming up milhouse
with that arm gone now.
