Has Adam Heether been in Huntsville all season?
Is Chase Wright as dumb a lefty as Manny Parra? Is the Timber Rattlers catcher known by other teams as “Stickin’” McCraw because of his Midwest League-famous chatting behind the dish? I want more from my minor league notes. :)
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
I kind of feel sorry for Heether.
He started the year in Nashville and played well, but got demoted. Nashville filled his roster spot with Erick Almonte, who’s a 31-year-old minor league free agent. On top of that, during his tenure with the organization, he gets passed up by current superstar Braun, future superstar Gamel (I’m not complaining, just sympathizing.) Last year, for playing time, he played a lot of SS in Nashville, but clearly that was short term as Escobar is ensconced in top propect status there. And who knows, when Taylor Green comes back from his wrist injury, Heether will probably get pushed aside again. And Heether’s a pretty decent player. Life in the minors is tough!
yeah
It’s tough watching Heether come through the system, because for a long time, he’s been destined for quad-A status. It’s one thing to make fun of the Erick Almontes of the world who have been bouncing around Triple-A forever, but Heether’s probably still at the stage where he can hold out hope for something better. He doesn’t have the bat for a corner spot, and I’m guessing he’s really stretched defensively at SS, maybe even stretched at 2B.
Also, cheese.

*shrug* TZ liked him at SS last year, at least
As Mass Haas said at BF.net, Heether is no doubt eagerly awaiting his minor league free agency.
"I didn't realize his velocity was that high," said Macha, noting that radar readings aren't flashed during exhibition games.
It's going to take more than a rough month to get someone with Salome's track record demoted
And it’s not like Lucroy’s performance is stealing any headlines from Chargers hockey*.
*Yes, I know the NCAA hockey season is over. It just tickles me that Alabama-Huntsville has a team.

Salome
Isn’t he battling an injury or something of that sort?

Well, he had a lot of back problems in camp
Judging by his stats, I think it’s safe to say his back is/was still bothering him, but I don’t know that for sure.

I dont know about Angel’s injury… his line has been getting better over the last couple of weeks. Maybe he is getting better.
