Game Thread #51: Brewers at Marlins

Milwaukee Brewers at Miami Marlins, Jun 1, 2009 6:10 PM CDT

And with that, the Brewers are back on the road.

For the Brewers, Jeff Suppan will try not to suck. He's 3-4 with a 5.23 ERA in ten starts, and was out of his last start early, allowing five earned runs on three home runs in 3.2 innings. He's allowed five home runs in his last 8.2 innings, and thirteen on the season.

For the Marlins, it's Andrew Miller (1-2, 4.55). He's making his eighth appearance (and sixth start) on the season. He's been pitching much better lately, allowing a 3.00 ERA over his last three starts. The Brewers don't have a single batter that's faced him before, so he could have the element of surprise.

State of the Bullpen:

Mark DiFelice pitched one inning yesterday.
Trevor Hoffman pitched one inning yesterday.
Mitch Stetter pitched one inning yesterday.
Seth McClung pitched 3 innings Saturday.
Carlos Villanueva pitched 1.1 innings Saturday.
Todd Coffey has not pitched since Friday.
Jorge Julio has not pitched since Tuesday.

Monday's Game Thread is now open.

McGehee

Despite Macha’s leaning his way for the leadoff spot, it’s Hart tonight:

Hart RF
Hall 3B
Braun LF
Fielder 1B
Cameron CF
Hardy SS
McGehee 2B
Kendall C
Suppan P

Just been looking at the standings in the NL East

and jeez the Nationals are really bad – currantly on track for a 43win season. It must be sometime since a team won so few games.

They’re not a bad team, always seem competitive…and I’ve been to the stadium and it’s a pretty good place to watch a game. I really don’t get why the Marlins don’t draw.

by ZTK Always on Vacation on Jun 1, 2009 6:24 PM CDT reply actions

given the size of the crowd:

(1) i’m shocked someone was in front of you;
(2) i guess she had plenty of storage space for her signs;
(3) how many season tickets do they sell? i imagine most of the attendance is paid no-shows. why would then even pay when it seems pretty obvious walk-ups are easy to get? or is this all just because it’s now rainy/ hurricane season? does attendance spike in spring/ fall?

by Capt Science on Jun 1, 2009 6:27 PM CDT up reply actions

My guess...

Is that everyone leaves Miami in the summer. She had PLENTY of room for sign storage…I was there in September, so that may have been a more robust day for attendance.

on espn brought up an interesting stat – since divisional play began, 64% of teams leading their division at the end of may make it into the playoffs (i think this is an aggregated stat). that’s roughly 2/3rds, so they went through the 6 divisions and picked 2 teams that they thought would not make the playoffs. golic guessed milwaukee and detroit. greenberg guessed milwaukee and the phillies (i think). both are hatin’. thoughts?

I get why Suppan gets the ball every 5 days.

And I’m not talking about his contract. Aside from 2006 and experience, I don’t have a reason to play Hall over McGehee. But maybe that’s enough.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jun 1, 2009 8:05 PM CDT up reply actions

McGehee should never play third when Gamel is on the mlb roster

Gamel can hold his own against lefties. If it comes to Hall sucking against them, too, that’s the option to go to. I’d be okay with a straight platoon, though. Someone suggested that back in February, I forget who :).

What R U thinking ?

3 pitches and you couldn’t tell ? Coach you left him in for what? 5 or 6 BATTERS..left with bases loaded and NO OUTS ! You have looked at his track record haven’t you ? Heck even those fish threw him back….nothing like taking the wind out of the BREWERS sails like the poor decisions that put the team in a tail spin a week plus earlier, Now I know it takes a little time for the both of you to figure what you each want and need, but one/third of the season and your still pulling stuff like this….come on coach isn’t it enough that you must of said something after the cardinal game (from the red-bird quote) that the team looks like it’s just not having fun.. Oh Yeah, one more thing, put the PRINCE back on real food…He looks like hes gotten bigger and can’t bend over anymore ( by the errors in fielding ) AND HE REALLY DOESN’T LOOK HAPPY.can be said about 80% of the team…
