Game Thread #59: Rockies (26-32) at Brewers (33-25)

Colorado Rockies at Milwaukee Brewers, Jun 10, 2009 7:05 PM CDT

Next Game

Dave Bush is far too gritty to let a little thing like taking a line drive off the arm keep him from pitching in his scheduled start. So far, his ERA looks pretty and he's striking out more batters than a year ago, but he's given up an awful lot of home runs, and his walk rate has been increasing for each of the past four years. He has managed to strand a lot of runners this year.

Jorge de la Rosa goes for the Rockies. Don't be fooled by the 1-6 record or 5+ ERA, JDLR has really found something in the past two years. He had a 4.06 FIP last year in Colorado in 130 innings, and this season he's thrown 68 with a 3.81 FIP. He's striking out more than a batter per inning (9 per 9) and has the walk rate down to about 4-- those numbers were 7 and 6 when the Brewers gave up on him.

Lineup, featuring a new leadoff hitter and a buried third baseman:

2B Casey McGehee
SS JJ Hardy
LF Ryan Braun
1B Prince Fielder
CF Mike Cameron
RF Corey Hart
C Mike Rivera
3B Bill Hall
P Dave Bush

The bullpen rest report:

  • Chris Smith pitched an inning on Wednesday in Nashville (17 pitches) and actually warmed up yesterday.
  • Trevor Hoffman pitched an inning on Saturday (11 pitches).
  • Carlos Villanueva pitched an inning on Sunday (32 pitches).
  • Mark DiFelice pitched 1/3 of an inning on Tuesday (4 pitches).
  • Todd Coffey pitched 1/3 of an inning on Tuesday (11 pitches) and 2/3 of an inning on Sunday (6 pitches).
  • Mitch Stetter pitched 1 1/3 innings on Tuesday (20 pitches).
  • Seth McClung pitched 1 inning on Tuesday (12 pitches).

Game time is 7:05 central. Go Brewers!

And there's the game thread!

Did another mod do something to get it to come up? Bk did it wrong yesterday so it was hidden behind what was supposed to be yesterday’s thread, and it just popped up now at 6:08 instead of 6 like it was supposed to.

I last May, still no more than Nick Neugebauer not.

I "edited" it and published the "changes"

I didn't do it wrong

I had to do the same thing as TheJay to get the draft thread to show up today. Something’s wrong with the SBN scheduling system; things are getting published on the front page in the order they were created, not by the scheduled publish time.

It was a great selection of awesome.

by battlekow on Jun 10, 2009 6:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Did you use the gamethread section thing with the green +, though? or did you just make a story?

If you used the green + thing, that’s weird, because it still shows up there. That looks jerkish when I read what I wrote in that first comment now, I wasn’t being mean.

Yeah, I saw that

He's turned into a pretty good pitcher in Colorado

But I only begrudge him it when he’s beating us.

It was a great selection of awesome.

Actually, I think they should go bad guy WWE style

start plunking players for no apparent reason, really show people up on home runs, play the game the so wrong it’s oh so right.

i just dont think theres anything to get excited about right now on the team

now that weeks being surprisingly good is over..i mean, we have leadership and the consistent players, but no spark. on top of that every time gamel starts hitting well he gets put on the bench so hall can strikeout or ground out on wild pitches

by sicklebeat on Jun 10, 2009 9:31 PM CDT reply actions

Nice

- A. Guzman relieved C. Zambrano
- M. Tejada singled to center
- H. Pence walked, M. Tejada to second
- C. Lee flied out to right center, M. Tejada to third
- L. Berkman intentionally walked, H. Pence to second
- G. Blum singled to center, M. Tejada scored, H. Pence to third, L. Berkman to second

by battlekow on Jun 10, 2009 9:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Gamel claims to be more comfy against lefties

Not like there’s a wide sample with a 2-for-7 ledger. Just seems like you need the power when you finally get a runner on. It’s a lefty bat, regardless.

by Et tu Brewte on Jun 10, 2009 9:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, are we talking about what should be done, or what realistically would be?

In my world, Gamel should start every game. In the real world, Gamel is never going to pinch hit for Bill Hall against a lefty.

by Dikembe Meiztombo on Jun 10, 2009 10:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't want to try to find that thread

but I recall concluding (and you disagreeing) that you typed some words to kirbir that I objected to. I concluded (and you disagreed) that they seemed dismissive of what I thought were reasonable objections that she had to your typed words and photos.

by lawlackey on Jun 10, 2009 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

So that means I'm irrationally disrespectful to people based solely on their sex

Got it. That makes tons of sense.

by Dikembe Meiztombo on Jun 10, 2009 10:43 PM CDT up reply actions

you're jumping several steps past what

I’m typing. I could be completely wrong. I’ve been wrong before. You might well be right. I’m not sure how I can be more clear than that. What I’m typing here is that we are entitled to conclude whatever we want about what the other person is typing. If you conclude that I’m jumping to incorrect conclusions about what you are typing, that’s perfectly okay with me. If I conclude that you are typing words that I perceive as not reflecting any sympathy with kirbir’s perspective on things, I hope that would be okay with you. In other words, I have no problem with you thinking that what I type seems to indicate that I’m…(insert something negative). But I get to do that too. That’s what I mean about agreeing to disagree…about what we are typing. Since we don’t know each other.

by lawlackey on Jun 10, 2009 10:52 PM CDT up reply actions

The fact of the matter is

That you made assumptions about me based on what? The fact that I questioned whether kirbir was being honest about being offended by something that is really quite vanilla?

by Dikembe Meiztombo on Jun 10, 2009 11:02 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be fake offended at such things

We already know what KLSnow said about the matter, now it’s time to drop it and listen to what he asked, which is to avoid posting a ton of cleavage pictures and instead try links if you must share.

This is the end of this conversation and I would appreciate both of you dropping the matter and just following what KLSnow asked us all to do.
