Mark Rogers is only 23? I thought he was 26 or 27. Looking at the first round, he’s only about a year older than the college guys coming out. And with 4 pitchers at A+ with ERAs under 1.65, who says the Crew lacks pitching prospects? They just lack pitchers who can pitch more than 2 innings well.

High School Pitchers

That’s the thing that is easy to forget about high school draftees. For guys like Rogers and Jeffress, it can be easy to become disappointed in their progress seeing as they have already been in the system for 3 or 4 years. Yet, they still are younger than many of the college draftees as you pointed out and they probably have been facing much stiffer competition than any college guys have been facing. For a little perspective I like to look at the numbers Jeffress, who is still only 21, has put up in the minors and contemplate how awesome they would be if he were pitching against college hitters.

Here’s a question for Jeff, how does college competition stack up against the different level of the minors (hypothetically, if Jeffress had been pitching in college the last 3 years what would you expect his numbers to be like)?
