BCB Fantasy League Update

In case anyone wants to post this on the front page, I'll put something before the jump

Star-divide

Well that ws fun.  Let's get on with it.  It's been awhile since I did this.  Reason being, check out my latest update on Twitter @enrico_palazzo_, mostly because it's too depressing to recount.  Anyway,I'm going to do a little self-analysis of my team, based on where I am.

My team is in trouble.  I've pretty much maxed out the value I have offensively.  I don't have much speed to think of, and there really isn't much upgrade over Placido Polanco out there (though I'm going to try Macier Isturis to see if I can get similar production with a little more speed there). The only tradable commodity I have isn't really good to go until I have Encarnacion back from the DL.  Basically, this is the peak I can go offensively.

Pitching wise, my starters refuse to o the simple thing and stop giving up runs.  Scott Baker has been a total bust, and Joe Blanton, despite turning things around a bit this month, has been killing me all year long.  My starter's WHIP and ERA have been so terrible that even though I have 4 very good relievers, I'm still near the bottom of the pack.  I may have to rethink how to get up the standings here.

My only hpe for a championship is to get rid of a starter or 2 (Dontrelle has today's game to prove he's worthy of a spot), and replace them with relievers with low ERA and WHIP.  Hopefully my team will continue with the wins, and maintain it's offensive domination.  Otherwise, it looks like a 6-10th place finish for me here.

Feel free to analyze your own team... and ask a few questions if you want.

My team is yo-yoing up and down the standings so fast, i think I’m starting to get a little ill.
In other news, if anyone is interested, I have redundancies at 2B and C and could use an upgrade at SS (I think you got the best of the Branyan/Renteria deal, Hyatt). I’m always open to offers.

yeah

just a little on that one

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Interesting...

No update until my lead shrinks? =)

It's the usual sunday morning update

but I’m sure you’ve expanded since then. Anyway, care to show some self-awareness on why your team is on top?

You bet I will...

Since there’s no $$ on it, I’ll share the whole story… I’ll try to get to it tonight.

Here's my thoughts on my climb...

For me, outside of luck, I’d say the biggest factor has been my work on the wire.

Sure, I’ve made some stupid pick ups, like Jake Fox and stupid drops like Zobrist (though it was in April), but I’ve managed to pick up some quality (a subjective term in 20-team leagues) off the wire… Through the wire I’ve grabbed O.Cabrera, Giambi, Nyjer Morgan (drafted, dropped and picked up again), G.Parra, and Barajas for my bats… For my rotation I acquired Zach Duke and Scott Richmond along with key relievers like Carrasco and Bruney… To top it off, all of these were made without using my wire priority which is up to #5.

Streaming SPs early in the season is a smart move when you don’t love all of your rotation. I got some quality starts by doing this along with big bumps in Ks and Wins. I’ve stopped streaming now because after about a month, I find that the available quality isn’t there anymore and most pitchers have lost their early season edge.

But as I said in the beginning, there’s some luck involved as well. Nelson Cruz is one of my top bats and I got him in the 10th round… Other lucky picks were Randy Wolf (drafted in the 18th round), Leo Nunez (17th), and Cueto (12th).

Through both of these aspects, I’ve managed a well-rounded team. Guys like Holliday and Tex are starting to hit and have a lot to do with my recent success (thank you new yankee stadium). I’m still lacking in AVG and SVs, but unless I get a trade offer to help myself out there or manage a Closer pickup, I’m gonna focus on dominating the other 8 cats.

…now that I’ve written this, my team is bound to suck because of the great Karma I’m putting out there, but whatever…

Feel free to comment/question/respond…

Useless trivia

Now that Prince hit a grand slam, Orlando Cabrera is the active leader in most HR with a grand slam (107). If he hits one this week to help you stay atop the pack, you can thank me (or Elias).

Glad to see that you were part of the 15% who decided to man up and give some good self analysis

I can try to do mine, it's pretty easy actually. (20% now)

My hitting = really good
My pitching = really bad

I’ve been hovering around 92 points out of a possible 100 on offense, and I still struggle to crack the top 5 or 6 overall. The good news is, I don’t think (crosses fingers) that I will need too much production from my pitching to have a decent season. The bad news is, so far they haven’t even been able to meet those limited expectations. Uehara was hurt, Guthrie has been terrible, and now it looks like Downs injured himself while batting the other night and might be headed to the DL for a while.

I’ve been grasping at straws in the pitching department trying to add where I could. I guess my only hope is to try to make a trade a little later in the year if I want to make a run at it. I just don’t know yet if I should target a starter or a reliever.

It’s actually a little disheartening to know that in most offensive catagories, there’s nowhere to go but down from here on out, but it’s also nice to not have the big massive point swings from day to day. For the most part my team has been treading water right where it is.

Suppan, who has seen his ERA rise from 4.12 in his final year in St. Louis to 4.62 in 2007 and 4.96 last year, isn't an option in fantasy leagues - Rotoworld

I'm closing in!

The gap between first and second is shrinking … I’ve actually been getting some saves lately, which is definitely my Achilles heel this season.

Look out

At the rate I’ve been climbing the standings, I’ll have a 100 point lead on all y’all in just over a month.

That is how statistics work, right?

SC still saying that we're a surprising team

given our key losses in the offseason, in Ben Sheets, and of course,CC Sabathia

you mean that we lost Ben Sheets and this CC Sabathia person last season… I hadn’t heard that before…

If anything can be a surprise for ESPiN – it should be not that we are at the top of the division, but that the Cubs are in 4th in the division and barely playing .500 ball. I mean they were the ones that were supposed to run away with the division weren’t they??
