3 hits in 4+, not bad.
… lots of pitches though.

How's Heether defensively?
any chance he’ll be a september call-up or compete with hall for the job next season?
Escobar’s above .300 as well, which actually surprised me (having tuned out the minors this season)

Not spectacular
But he’s not terrible, and he can play multiple positions (at the very least 2B and 3B… I think they may have played him in the OF some last year as well.) Decent range, makes the routine plays.

“I basically forgot who I was, forgot my mentality as a pitcher,” he said. “Normally I’m a power pitcher who commands my offspeed (pitches) along with my fastball. I’d kinda gotten to a point where I’d lost some confidence, changed to a guy who was trying to trick guys and get them to swing at bad pitches – just less aggressive.”“Although it’s unfortunate I had to get to this point, I’m happy to be here so I can make progress to get back to where I was before,” Parra said. “It makes it a little easier on me by being out of the limelight a little bit so I can go ahead and make adjustments and understand that there’s not so much pressure necessarily.
”I’m just disappointed that I let myself get to that point where I was actually getting demoted. I know they gave me so many opportunities to turn it around at the big league level. It’s disappointing.
“But I got to a point where I realized I can either worry about that and think about everything that got me to that point, or I can take it from this point and look at the positive and move forward. That’s what I’m basically doing right now, looking forward to getting some things squared out and getting my confidence back.”
It was a great selection of awesome.

Good for him, that’s exactly what I want to hear. I really hope he figures it out, we need him to perform for a run.

Very well said.
While it has been miserable watching him pitch almost every outing, this really puts it in perspective as to how miserable he has been feeling. Not a bad first outing for him today, but he needs to get his head back in the game. This might turn out to be the best thing to happen to him this season. The timing is perfect.

4Ks too
give the guy a break.. he’s not going to be lights out right after struggling in like 10 consecutive starts.

Parra's strikeout rate was never the problem
It was a great selection of awesome.

Just saying...
4 BBs aren’t going to get him back to the majors. I understand he won’t be lights out, but 4 walks against AAA batters isn’t really a sign of progress at all!

It was a mixed bag today.
114 pitches. 75 for strikes. Encouraging.
And, yet, he still manages to walk four batters. Argh.

I'm encouraged
hopefully this is the first step to turning it around. Maybe in a couple of months he’ll be ready for the bigs again. Of course, he won’t if he has a repeat of tonight’s performance, but the trend is there.

According to TH:
Melvin says that Parra started on three days rest today so he’s “on schedule to be ready to pitch on June 27, when the Brewers need a fifth starter again.” However: “no promises were made to Parra and he would have to have two strong starts with the Sounds in the interim to be recalled.”
Does today qualify as a “strong start”?
by Rubie Q on Jun 17, 2009 3:29 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The problem with that is:
a) 4 days rest would have him pitch on the 22nd.
b) The Sounds do not play on the 22nd.
So he would either need to pitch on:
a) the 21st (3 days rest) or
b) the 23rd and have 3 days rest before the 27th.
More likely they pitched him today because:
a) he only pitched 1 1/3 4 days ago and
b) They needed someone to take Mike Burns spot so that he could pitch on the 21st lining him up for the 27th

Heh, our old buddy Jose Capellan gave up the winning run in the 11th.
He’s 1-8 for the season with an ERA of 8.58 now.

Walks
I agree the four walks are unacceptable. He is not down there to work on mechanics. His mechanics are fine by all accounts. He is down there to work on his confidence and that means pounding the strike zone. Just another game of Manny being Manny.

You sure on that?
I am by no means an expert, but his mechanics looked different in the past three games to me. Maybe not better or worse, but different than the past two years.
I last May, still no more than Nick Neugebauer not.
