Game Thread #68: Milwaukee Brewers (37-30) at Detroit Tigers (36-31)
Milwaukee Brewers at Detroit Tigers, Jun 20, 2009 3:05 PM CDT
After a fiasco of a Brewer game last night at Comerica park, Alfredo Figaro makes his major league debut against Dave Bush today. I know nothing about his stuff, but his minor league numbers are strong at AA this season and he has a trend of good K:BB rates. He also has a pretty cool name.
Bush has struggled lately and pitched into some bad luck. We'll see if he can right the ship. Tom H notes that Kendall is in the lineup today even though Bush is pitching, but says it might be a misprint. We'll check that out before the game starts. Mike Cameron is also serving his suspension today, so Jody Gerut gets a start in center. Otherwise, the lineup:
2B Craig Counsell
DH Casey McGehee
LF Ryan Braun
1B Prince Fielder
RF Corey Hart
3B Mat Gamel
SS JJ Hardy
CF Jody Gerut
C Jason Kendall
Bullpen rest situation:
- Chris Narveson is probably unavailable after throwing a lot yesterday
- Seth McClung pitched 2 1/3 innings on Wednesday (48 pitches)
- Trevor Hoffman pitched 2/3 of an inning on Wednesday (12 pitches)
- Mark DiFelice pitched 1 1/3 innings on Wednesday(16 pitches)
- Mitch Stetter pitched 2/3 of an inning on Wednesday (20 pitches)
Game time is 3:05 central. Go Brewers!

Nice
The new tag line for the site rules. I will be going back to the Rally Shirt today to make sure the Crew gets back on track.
"He had some firsts," said Brewers manager Ken Macha. "His first homer, his first Major League start, his first error and my first gray hair."
Bill Hall
According to ESPN.com, Bill Hall is starting in RF and hitting fifth. Now THAT would seem to be a misprint. As for Rivera, maybe they’re trying a new catcher to see if a different game-caller for Bush may get him turned around.
I wonder if Rivera is going to catch YoGa tomorrow then.
TGJrCDT, BC
I have a feeling we will be saying TGJr could do that, but cheaper so many times today we should shorten it to acronym form.
Maybe it was talked about yesterday,
but anyone know the reasoning behind putting Gamel at 3B and McGehee at DH two games in a row, instead of vice-versa?
McGehee is probably still ailing from his (right foot?) injury?

Right knee and left ankle, I think

it'd be nice if Rivera could catch more than one pitcher (rolls eyes)
battlekow: Bill is having an oppo-gasm
maybe this is the trick
have Kendall catch Bush a time or two, necessitating Rivera to catch someone else for a rotation a time or two, and use that as a kind of test for Rivera as much as it is seeing if this is a welcome change for Bush
With Kenny Albert announcing
I half expect to see Greg Jennings catch a touchdown and for Ron Pitts to say something stupid

Do they not bend the bills of minor league caps?
Is that why guys like Chris Smith and Figaro (and Jeff Bennett as a Rule 5 pick) wear them like that?
