Win Expectancy Graph
SB Nation Coverage
It was billed as a great pitching matchup and the game didn't disappoint. Yovani Gallardo struck out eight in seven innings while allowing six hits and three walks. Unfortunately, three of those hits came in the sixth inning, one of them a three-run home run off the bat of Brandon Inge. That home run was the difference as Justin Verlander carved up the Brewers offense. He struck out eight and allowed eight baserunners over 7 2/3 innings. The only runs he allowed came on solo home runs by Casey McGehee and Craig Counsell. Bobby Seay and Fernando Rodney finished off the series sweep.

You know that’s exactly how I thought this game would go.

Starting Pitching Catastrophe
It is going to be hard for Milwaukee to stay in the division race with only one starting pitcher. They need to pick up a starter sooner rather than later. Last year when they picked up Sabathia, it was so important to get every start they possibly could out of him, they threw his arm out by the time they were in the playoffs. Hey Melvin, I have an idea. You know how to get more starts out of mid-season aquisitions??? Sign them earlier in the year!!!
Milwaukee actually needs to pick up two starting pitchers. I just hope it is not a typical Milwaukee move to little to late. The thing is, by trying to be cheap, they end up getting nothing. They would not pay Cordero to be there closer even though he was a proven commodity. So, they sign Gagne for 4 million less. Now did they save 4 million, or did they waste every penney spent on Gagne?

This is a ridiculous comment

Really? Typical? The Brewers have been contenders for how long, to be qualified as having a “typical” pattern?
I have to stop myself early, here. Done.
Get over it.

This is just an incredibly awesome comment all-around
Yes like those last two years we were in contention here, when they freaking got Linebrink, Sabathia, and Durham. The trade for Sabathia was one of the first trades to even go down last season. Yeah, we should sign up those good starting pitchers earlier in the season so we don’t work them so dadgum hard in the last part of the season.
Signing Cordero to be there closer for 4 years, $42 million would have definitely been a crippling mistake. They didn’t save anything by signing Gagne last year, actually, but they gained a short-term commitment.

how about if morineko
happens to be in town and the brewers happen to show up? That was my excuse for seeing mets-brewers and giants-brewers.

There isn't a trade...
that will fix three starting pitchers who are slumping.

Actually there is a trade
but Jim Bowden got fired.
Also, cheese.

On the contrary....
We should sign Bowden as a special assistant to the GM. Trader Jim’ll fix us right up!

Okay, I'm done with this whole "losing" thing
It’s much more fun to watch the Brewers win. I knew the Brewers couldn’t keep up their early pace. I knew the starters were overachieving and due for a “correction” (though it’s worse than I anticipated and all at once, too). I knew there would be at least one bad month, probably two.
It’s still hard to watch and I admit my interest in catching the games has waned along with their starting pitching. Gallardo put up a good fight, but it was yet another disappointing result.
I’m sure its harder for the players than any of the fans, but at least I get the choice of waiting to watch the games in the morning when I can skip innings when they fall behind on the scoreboard.
It will be much more fun when they start winning again.

that’ll break us from this slump

yes
I can’t wait to get back to the AAAA portion of the schedule.
"He had some firsts," said Brewers manager Ken Macha. "His first homer, his first Major League start, his first error and my first gray hair."
