quick question...

Playing around with Lawrie’s MLS stats, I just noticed that the Luck adjustment shows slightly different AVG/OBP/SLG numbers than the Park+Luck view – despite the exact same batting stats. (Particularly noticeable in the last 7 days line, where 3-for-16 shows as .180 with Luck and, correctly, as .188 with Park+Luck.) Is the Luck view not using rounded numbers for the hit etc. counts?

That's a good guess

It’s been a while since I wrote those adjusters, so I don’t remember. Unfortunately, all of it is written is extremely bad javascript, so it might be some time before I’m ready to wade back in.

Also, cheese.

Yeah, he's been unbelievable good with the bat

Helena’s announcer, Steve Wendt, was raving about his ability to block balls in the dirt too. He did commit throwing errors on two consecutive plays last night, but who knows the real story there—maybe he hit the runners or something.

It was a great selection of awesome.

You mean the GDP?

If so, I added GDPs at the same time I added SB and CS.

Also, cheese.

Then there's a problem.

Iribarren had one, too, as did several Brewers players in the other games…

by Zeyes on Jun 28, 2009 1:33 PM CDT up reply actions

ok, thanks for letting me know

GDPs are listed in a different format from SB and CS; I didn’t test it (obviously). I might just be grabbing the first one listed. I thought there didn’t seem to be enough, but I’ve been distracted the last few days since I’ve been trying to add the DSL to my universe o’ stats.

Also, cheese.

Nothing like accidental bug reports...

With battlekow’s name on the MLN posts the last two days, I honestly thought the Heether GDP might have been added especially for roguejim’s benefit. :)

And now it's fixed

both this post, and forevermore. I do love text parsing, but I also apparently love screwing it up.

Also, cheese.

Jeff beat me to it in the draft picks thread...

but that was the professional debut for Maverick Lasker, last year’s 5th-round pick. Also debuting was 2009 7th-rounder Khris Davis, who got all of one at-bat before rolling his ankle and leaving the game.

Chris Dennis and Steve Braun got injured too, both on plays at the plate, and Taylor Green is officially on the DL now, so that sucks.

But hey, how about Angel Salome recently? Great game for Cody Scarpetta, too—I love the no walks.

It was a great selection of awesome.

We've got a new toy

The DSL is now officially part of minorleaguesplits, at least for 2009. Over 1,000 new players added to the db. Here’s Pascual’s DSL stats.

Odd fact, to ponder at your leisure:
FIP is calculated as something like (13*HR + 3*BB – 2*K)/IP + x, where x is a league-specific factor. In MLB, it’s usually 3.2 or so. I’ve calculated league-specific factors for all of the minor leagues. For the Int’l League (the “better” AAA league), it was 3.34 last year; in the California, Pioneer, Arizona, and Northwest Leagues, it’s up around 4.0. In general, the lower the league, the higher the factor.

But…the GCL is 3.43, and the DSL is 3.37. Bit of a surprise, that.

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Jun 28, 2009 1:49 PM CDT reply actions

On that note

Pascual struck out nine and walked none in 3.1 innings yesterday. Then again, he’s also 20 now (too old for the DSL), and his overall numbers are not exciting, though he is getting a lot of grounders.

It was a great selection of awesome.

DSL: Included!

I added it to today’s post, and it’s set up to be included in future posts as well. Only known Brewers farmhands are listed, and there aren’t many of them, as the team is about 3:1 O’s to Brewers.

Also, cheese.
