Is JJ Hardy sick?

That’s what fueled Moeller’s triple.

How can you not? Such a fun team, McGehee doesn’t just settle for a small amount of redemption, he goes out and does a wonder

Regarding KC McE

I can only find some decent articles on FanGraphs and Bleacher Report stating Rasmus, Gamel, Kawakami (34 year old rookie from Japan), and the Jordans (Zimmerman and Schafer). Regarding Casey though, I don’t believe he has over 130 at-bats, but I know somewhere that there is some active roster issue about being up a certain amount of days before September 1st. Seems like from the Wikipedia on him (>.<), that he was called up Sept 2. Also from the Wiki, “McGehee is the grandson of Scuffy McGehee, the last Major League pitcher to consistently use the floater pitch.” I think Henry Gardenhoser’s mom may have something to say about that.

ANYWAY!!!! Why is he not showing up in many of the rookie of the year chats and even further, classified as a rookie on some of the stats searches on some sites like ESPN.

by Bush League All Star on Jun 29, 2009 8:53 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Rookie rules

To be considered a rookie, you must come into the season with 130 or fewer career at bats or fewer than 45 days of service time (not including time after September 1). He is still a rookie.

Scuffy McGehee is not a real person, sadly.

Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.

by TheJay on Jun 29, 2009 8:57 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Is it the ABs/IP or the service time, or *and* the service time?

i.e. if you’ve been on the roster for 45 days but have only 120 ABs/45 IP, are you a rookie?

It was a great selection of awesome.

by battlekow on Jun 29, 2009 9:02 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just looked it up...

And it seems if you hit one or the other in some fashion, you get the credit for being in your rookie season.

by Bush League All Star on Jun 29, 2009 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Or
A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list).

Thanks!

Clears up the rule. I am thinking maybe that websites have more of a mechanical approach since on a lot of sites he is listed as 1 year service. He conforms more to the way the rookies are classified by MLB. Probably the way the sites read his service and judge it based on that.

Poor Scuffy though.

by battlekow on Jun 29, 2009 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think it would depend on the person counting

Pitch counts aren’t really part of the rules. It would just be easier to count them as pitches so you don’t have three-pitch walks and the like.
