Curtain Calls
Was at the Crew-Mets game last night, and got thinking about curtain call etiquette...
My brother-in-law and I got in a talk about when a curtain call is appropriate, and when it's overdone. No doubt McGehee's slam was a great moment, especially given the boofed pop-up in the top of the inning. Awesome thing for a young dude just trying to make it legit...
However, there was some disagreement about whether a curtain call was needed, given that it came against a mediocre Mets squad in June. My brother-in-law (a Mets fan) thought that it was a good thing, as long as it's done with some class; I thought it should be reserved for game changing plays/performances when more is on the line in terms of a season.
So, I thought I'd throw a couple questions out there:
Is there a right time and a wrong time for a curtain call? What circumstances call for a curtain call?
Also, anybody out there have an especially memorable Brewers curtain call?

I agree with Mykenk
Let the fans decide. If they call for a curtain call, give it to them.
The last Curtain Call I saw came earlier this year when Yovani hit his HR in that 1-0 win against Pittsburgh. I was sitting in the 2nd row next to the Brewers dugout, so it was really neat to see!

As long as
you’re not visibly ‘sticking it to’ your opponents and keep it quick, I can totally understand a curtain call for something like a grand slam.
That being said, I think it should be reserved for career milestones, game-changing moments in meaningful games, and the like. I’m not opposed to the occasional call outside these situations, it’s just not my preference.

I recall a postgame curtain call in County Stadium
It would have been 87 or 88. Teddy Higuera pitched a beauty of a CG, and we chanted “Teddy, Teddy” until he came out for a tip of the cap.

If only those 21,161 knew
the horrors we’d feel just 14 years later. It makes me think back to a simpler time where one could enjoy the beauty of a Teddy Higuerra CG without the threat of global terror.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Not necessary...
But McGehee did it quick and professionally. But it really wasn’t necessary.

Big Papi
Did anyone else see that Ortiz was giving a curtain call after each of his first four or five home runs this year. Seems like the worst reason to give curtain calls. “I suck about 5 times as much as the last five years, so i’m going to try to take more credit when i do actually do something.”

I think last night's
was more because of the great mini story of redemption. Casey let the Mets back in the game and obviously felt awful about it. It was a pretty long at bat and the suspense was building and it ended with a feel good moment that both Casey and us Brewers fans needed.
