CINCINNATI — Milwaukee right-hander Dave Bush will rest his tired pitching arm for five days, pushing back the Brewers’ plans for his return to the rotation.

Bush had MRI exams on his shoulder and arm Friday, two days after he felt tiredness during a minor league rehab start. The results showed no change from previous tests. Bush will rest through next Wednesday, then be examined again.

Bush went on the disabled list June 23 because of a small tear in his right triceps that caused him to feel fatigue. He was 3-4 with a 5.67 ERA.

Milwaukee had hoped to have him back next Monday. Instead, right-hander Mike Burns will start in Pittsburgh. Burns, who was called up when Bush got hurt, is 2-2 with a 5.54 ERA in four starts and one relief appearance.

All-Star outfielder Ryan Braun is out of the Milwaukee Brewers’ lineup with a sore right thumb.

He was given the day off by manager Ken Macha for Saturday’s game against Cincinnati and replaced in left field by Frank Catalanotto.

Braun was hit by a pitch from Cincinnati’s Bronson Arroyo on Friday night. The ball hit Braun’s left hand and right thumb. He stayed in the game and had one more at-bat, grounding out. Braun said the thumb bothered him when he held the bat.

from the JS
FoxSport’s Ken Rosenthal says the Brewers are one of the teams “flying under the radar” in the pursuit of Toronto ace Roy Halladay.

Rosenthal noted that the Blue Jays are very interested in Brewers shortstop prospect Alcides Escobar, whom the Brewers aren’t anxious to trade, but accurately noted they don’t have young pitching to trade of any note.

Rosenthal isn’t sure Halladay would approve a trade to the Brewers. He has a full no-trade clause and would have to approve any deal. Rosenthal notes he only wants to go to a “perennial contender.”

The Brewers see themselves as a perennial contender in the NL Central. Let’s see if they can convince Halladay of that and come up with an acceptable package for the Blue Jays.

More useless trivia

“…both [Brian Runge’s] father Paul and his grandfather Ed were Major League umpires, making the Runges the first three-generation umpiring family in the history of Major League Baseball.”

What’s weird is he wasn’t working with his normal crew during the no-hitter. He’s usually with Darryl Cousins like tonight but he was on Jerry Crawford’s crew in that game. I think Crawford is out hurt or on vacation or something so that could be why he moved over for a bit.
