Game Thread #79a

It's either the "massive comeback" thread or the "let's just get this one over with before someone gets hurt" thread, depending on your optimism.

hey, if the Orioles taught us anything

massive comebacks are very much possible

anyone

ever been to one of the old time 1860s baseball games or are any of you members?

by Nicole Haase on Jul 2, 2009 9:03 PM CDT reply actions

They have them in Des Moines

But I never made it to one.

sorry...not that old

i’ll dig up my great-great grandfather if you’d like to know what they were like.

although, I think he was in the wrong country.

There's a couple of local teams

They play at Old World Wisconsin and Wade House and usually play during the reenactments at the VA

highlight of my night

deciding to go to the TRats game tomorrow night!

by Nicole Haase on Jul 2, 2009 9:03 PM CDT reply actions

I was there on Tuesday.

Cold, windy night, threatening to rain, and they still had 3600 in the crowd. They’re drawing ridiculously well this year,

we went a few weeks ago

ended up seeing a surprise double header, and froze our butts off. we ended up buying hot chocolate all day to stay warm. It was nuts. We had on hats and gloves and had a blanket on our laps

by Nicole Haase on Jul 2, 2009 9:08 PM CDT up reply actions

First A ball game I ever went to

Went to Davenport to see Prince Fielder’s Beloit Snappers play. About an hour before we were scheduled to leave, I noticed they were starting early and playing a doubleheader so we scrambled to get there and showed up in the third inning of game one. They did a fifth inning stretch, confusing both of us, then Fielder hit a home run in the eighth and both sides walked off. We had no idea minor league doubleheaders were 7 innings, so we were both confused as hell.

by Kyle Lobner on Jul 2, 2009 9:11 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

it confused us as well. Plus, I think because it was cold and because there werent that many people there, they only did all their promotion stuff during one game. Made the second game REALLY long in that cold

by Nicole Haase on Jul 2, 2009 9:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Also

We decided to see if there was anything else to do while we’re up there for the day and found this: “Bringing the world of paper to life, the Paper Discovery Center is an exciting place to learn about the history of paper, how it is made, and what the paper industry is all about. This beautiful center is in the old Atlas Mill of Appleton, and also houses the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame.”

SOME

by Nicole Haase on Jul 2, 2009 9:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

I’m frequently annoyed by the constant stream of on field promotions and whatnot at minor league games, but they can get long and slow in a hurry when there’s none of them.

Kendall is trying so hard to take out Dempster's legs.

Gerut pinch hitting

On the white flag scale, that’s akin to putting Narveson in the game.

Too true

Gerut with his fourth Brewer hit

Now batting .121.

by Kyle Lobner on Jul 2, 2009 9:08 PM CDT reply actions

On the season, yes.

.121 as a Brewer.

"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."

by Kyle Lobner on Jul 2, 2009 9:09 PM CDT up reply actions

clearly

it’s because we don’t play him every day. if we did, he’d be a .400 player easily

by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 2, 2009 9:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Remind me again.

How’s TGJ doing. Is it better, or worse than .121?

by Legend54321 on Jul 2, 2009 9:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Isn't the Padres park

pitcher friendly though?

dickie_thon: Third baseman Bill Hall / Watches the third strike go by / Gamel grabs his glove

by GoGregGo on Jul 2, 2009 9:11 PM CDT up reply actions

I'll remind you again

When he’s played every day for 3 months and is back to hitting .280/.320/.330.

Please do that.

i have a reasonable dislike of Bill Hall.

The grass is always greener

Only the grass is Gwyn, and he looked greener before the move technically

Strike outs aren’t awesome.

Braunie with an RBI

5 runs doesn’t sound so crippling, does it?

let’s forget yesterday when i ask that

by pharom on Jul 2, 2009 9:12 PM CDT reply actions

The Orioles say NOOOO

First they overcame nine, then the next day, gave up a 5-0 lead

by Nicole Haase on Jul 2, 2009 9:14 PM CDT up reply actions

TH gets better as the night goes on
Jody Gerut just got a pinch-hit single for the Brewers. I’m not kidding. Honest.

Narveson

Is it just me, or does he have a really delayed release?

by bluejazz04 on Jul 2, 2009 9:20 PM CDT reply actions

you mean like

he should have been DFAd two weeks ago?

by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 2, 2009 9:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe he'd have better luck

against someone other than Dempster.

by oconnobe on Jul 2, 2009 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions

craiggers

i thought you had laser-eyes that would identify that last one as a ball.

look ugly

by molitorfan on Jul 2, 2009 9:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Aside from Gallardo though...

… it’s impossible for them to look any better. It would be nice to have Bush back, but I’m not sure how much better they would look with him starting one of these 4 games.

i have a reasonable dislike of Bill Hall.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jul 2, 2009 9:44 PM CDT up reply actions

hoping that cam gets another shot this inning

hell…hoping counsell gets another shot this inning

by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 2, 2009 9:43 PM CDT reply actions

… but both were too close to take.
