All the minor words are being used, like "tweak"
He might be able to pinch hit, but I’d guess he’s being held out so he can get the full two days to recover.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
you screwed yourself and you didnt even know it

By the way
With a bare minimum of two full innings left to play, this game is already 2:26 minutes long.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
And cue the complaining about leaving Coffey in...
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
ive got no reason to complain otherwise.

I prefer to bitch about everything
And if the move doesn’t work out, I can say: “See, I told you so.”
And if it does work out, I can say: “That was still dumb, but they got lucky.”
I’m versatile.
I think you have to consider it.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
On field delay?
They always blackout the games with the streakers

usually the streakers are the fat guys that drank too much though
so, you’d not be missing much.

Someone asked earlier how Vazquez drew 20 walks?
Here you go.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
Now THIS idea I don't like
captainbok: What do you like the most about milwaukee
Jeff Suppan: Captain Bok, that is a great question. Does "Bok" mean Book of Knowledge? My favorite thing about Milwaukee are the Brewers.
I don't care, I stand by my argument, I don't think he should have been IBB'd

Jeff Suppan: Captain Bok, that is a great question. Does "Bok" mean Book of Knowledge? My favorite thing about Milwaukee are the Brewers.
Call be a traditionalist but I don't think you should intentionally walk a .241 hitter like ever
Seriously, what were the odds of getting that DP??
captainbok: What do you like the most about milwaukee
Jeff Suppan: Captain Bok, that is a great question. Does "Bok" mean Book of Knowledge? My favorite thing about Milwaukee are the Brewers.
I understand the argument against it
But this late in the game, giving up one run is almost as bad as giving up the big inning.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
Almost being a key word here
We’ve scored 7 runs in 7 innings and I think we can do at least 1 more
captainbok: What do you like the most about milwaukee
Jeff Suppan: Captain Bok, that is a great question. Does "Bok" mean Book of Knowledge? My favorite thing about Milwaukee are the Brewers.
Quality of reliever
Any runs score and your team is facing a closer in the 9th which means they essentially have 1 inning with a good chance to score. The relievers that the Brewers will face is going to be lower with a tie game than with a small deficit.
Exactly
The stats pretty much never favor IBB in terms of average runs scored, but I’d be interested to see the stats on proportion of time at least 1 run scores. That would be more important situationally.
Pretty much
The expectancy of multiple runs goes up quite a bit but the odds of one run goes down a lot. Overall, the other team will score more runs but in a tie game it’s often the right call.
by kingcharlesxii on Jul 22, 2009 2:11 PM CDT up reply actions
The odds of at least one run scoring barely move there...
http://www.tangotiger.net/RE9902score.html
2nd and 3rd with one out, you can expect to escape w/o damage 30.5% of the time. IBB a guy to load the bases and those odds jump a whopping 2.5% to 33%.
I’d base that decision on the matchups, every time. I’d rather have faced Vazquez/PH than PH/McCutchen.
But every once in a blue moon, it works as planned and you get a GIDP and look brilliant.
run scores otherwise
its risky but i think its the smarter move almost every time.

I love it

Kind of wanted Stetter
Which goes to show how much luck there is to being a manager. Macha looks like a genius today. Pulling Suppan because he was ineffective, not for pitch count kept the game in reach. Keeping in Coffee, despite Stetter’s lefty-split. Does Coffee have a better ground out ratio than Stetter?
coffee
has the big sinker which results in a lot of groundballs. Playing for the K would have been fine too, but he was playing for the DP.
by badgermaniac on Jul 22, 2009 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions
I'm not sure what the ratio is.
But Coffee is considered a ground-ball pitcher because of his sinker, Macha normally uses him in that spot anyway.
Lopez pinch hitting?
"If lovin’ Braun is wrong, I want to be a repeat offender!"
RIP Nick Adenhart - Stop Drunk Driving
Yeah, I don't think he's actually that hurt
captainbok: What do you like the most about milwaukee
Jeff Suppan: Captain Bok, that is a great question. Does "Bok" mean Book of Knowledge? My favorite thing about Milwaukee are the Brewers.
Well, if it's just a hamstring, and it's not a severe strain
Then standing at the plate and swinging shouldn’t be all that difficult. He might have needed a pinch runner if he got on, though, and appearances where no batting is required are the perfect use of Jody Gerut.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
takes the first pitch?...

Ok let's hope Counsell reaches so we can get a big 9th
With Braun, Fielder, and MCGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Does anyone else realize we haven't one a series this month?
Unacceptable, I thought and still believe that the Felipe Lopez trade suggests Melvin’s willingness to make a playoff team but he is a fool if he believes that this is the team that will make it to October.
We have only four (6 if you want to count Cameron and Counsel) legitimate hitters on this team and a rotation that can count 2 nearly automatic losses (Suppan and 5th).
Mark this down now, if Hardy is still on this team past the trade deadline we WILL NOT make the playoffs. He needs to get traded to Seattle or where ever for a solid pitcher. I don’t see what Escobar can’t give that Hardy is giving right now and he brings much needed speed to the lineup.
While we need August to gain momentum without a better starting five we won’t be in it in late September anyways, Lopez suggests the commitment for success now but Melvin needs to finish the deal

Glad you got that off your chest.

only two games back, man
and the office is working on a trade, im sure.
::Another 95% plus FanGraphs win goes right down the fucking tubes:: Indians fan after Prince's Grand Salami
Suppan is not an automatic loss
Still under-5 ERA…so he sucked today, but before that, it was closer to 4 than it was 5…that’s not so bad!!
captainbok: What do you like the most about milwaukee
Jeff Suppan: Captain Bok, that is a great question. Does "Bok" mean Book of Knowledge? My favorite thing about Milwaukee are the Brewers.
I still don't understand
why we think teams will be falling all over each other to get JJ. Any team with any sense would insist on Escobar over JJ, right?
Depends on what's coming back.
Escobar’s value is probably higher, but Hardy is still a pretty good defensive shortstop with high hitting upside and multiple years of control.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
we are considering rentals here
specifically Bedard or Washburn. A young player with above average to good potential is more than equal to a good / non elite pitcher for 10 starts

If the Brewers trade Hardy and the best pitcher they end up with is Washburn,
I’ll be as angry as Rubie was before, and two weeks later you’ll be ranting about how the Brewers need pitching again.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
So what do we do if this reaches the 10th??
captainbok: What do you like the most about milwaukee
Jeff Suppan: Captain Bok, that is a great question. Does "Bok" mean Book of Knowledge? My favorite thing about Milwaukee are the Brewers.
Ask Chris Smith if he can go.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
Smith threw two innings Monday, but only 29 pitches.
I’m guessing they’d rather not use him, but probably can.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
This is exactly the decision they shouldn't have made.
Short bullpen, still multiple innings to go, and they burned up DiFelice for two batters? What happens if Stetter doesn’t get the lefty out here?
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
Apparently Macha would rather have Stetter against a righty than DiFelice against a lefty.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
He's been pretty consistent on that
And he’s not shown any lost confidence in Villaneuva to speak of, so he’s probably comfortable putting him out there for the 10th assuming Hoffman will be there in the 9th in the case of a tie game.
I think we'll see Smith before Villanueva.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
i hate this guy
plus his picture on gamecast is creeping me out

Again I really don't agree with this
Walk the .235 guy to get to the .318 guy (with 3 hits??)

This game is frustrating enough on this side
But the Pirate fans must feel like they’ve blown 20 chances to win this one.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
No kidding
Our half innings are taking like 7 pitches, they keep getting runners on 2nd and 3rd…yikes

What the hell is wrong with this team?
We are going through a stretch of easy as shit teams and seriously we can’t even win ONE damn series??

Stretch of easy games where??
I was happy with a split against the reds.. Played like crap this series but were in position to win the series if braun extends his great game today.
That doesn't happen often
Stetter homerun to a lefty. No team should give up that many homeruns. * sigh*
