Actually
Jeff Suppan is the bomb, counting down every second until he blows it or the gun pointed to your head, forcing you to dig the ditch.
Bill Hall just kinda reminds me of the Sandman from Spiderman 3.

Let’s pretend that this years July is last years september, and that we’ll be totally okay.
Or, we can be the JSonline blog, where we’ll just extrapolate out, and pretend that this months results are going to continue indefinitely, and we’ll finish 45 games under .500.
Seriously. If we’re still 6 games out when the ship starts to turn itself around, then I think we’re in ok shape.

Right, but no one is calling for Bush, Parra (okay maybe) or Looper to be released, or dumped, or tarred and feathered.
It’s results that matter, and when it comes to Suppan, he can’t pitch well enough to not be despised by everyone, even though his results haven’t been as bad as his teammates.
Not saying the other pitchers have done well by any definition, but I sense far more hatred for Suppan than anyone else, and I’m not so sure it’s deserved.
Today, it may be deserved, however…

Grand slams happen
I can get over that those. It’s the old “walking in a run” that drives me crazy - that if you get to the point where throwing a ball means giving up a run, and you can’t throw a strike anyway.

I was at the "game" tonight
Maybe I’m misguided, but I don’t blame soup for this loss. Up until the 5th inning tonight, I had been a pretty happy Macha supporter, but it was clear to EVERYONE that Soup had lost his stuff that inning, I couldn’t believe he kept him in. And then he batted for himself with a man on second. Un. be. lieveable. I almost had a hernia. And then he started the next inning, leaving a ticking poop bomb for the bullpen RIGHT AFTER the brewers got it to a one-run game. Now I know the bullpen did its best to stink as well, but I maintain that had they gotten to start with a clean slate at the beginning of the inning after Soup SAC’d, then things may well have been different. Not saying we would have won, but we must have had a better chance. So no, I’m not angry at Soup, I’m pissed as hell at Macha for bumbling that game away by leaving soup in about an inning and a half (45 minutes?) after it was clear he had lost his stuff.
Bah.

They talked at length about how Macha needed Suppan to go deep into the game. Though perhaps not to give up 10 runs in doing so.

So call up another pitcher after the game if you have to
Or have Trevor Hoffman throw an inning in something other than a save situation (gasp). Yeah, it sucks when you need four innings from the bullpen before a short start but it sucks more when you’re unwilling to use one of the arms out there.

Ouch
it was a hard one to listen to last night. I hope that the Crew can get their head out of their a@$ and play some ball. Since the All-Star break they have been a totally different team. The pitching staff has been worse actually. in the past 30 days the Crew overall ERA is over 5 per outing. It is kinda tough to expect the offense to dish out 6 runs every night(but that would not helped last night). Due to the fact they did do that .
