LVP: Carlos Villanueva (-.299)
Win Expectancy Graph
SBNation Coverage
Carlos Villanueva's first start wasn't a total loss, as he allowed a leadoff home run to Nyjer Morgan, then settled down before beginning to tire and allowing four runs in the fourth with an assist from Corey Hart, who dropped a sliding catch attempt that could have led to a double play.
He was followed to the mound by Tim Dillard, who had a similar outing, walking the tightrope and surviving situations with runners on in the fifth, sixth and seventh before surrendering a three run home run to Cristian Guzman in the eighth. All told, the two had the following lines:
Villanueva: 4 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Dillard: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 1 K
But, both were outpitched by Collin Balester, who picked up his first win of 2009, allowing just two runs on five hits and no walks in six innings. The Brewers only managed seven hits in the game but three of them came off the bat of J.J. Hardy, who had two singles and an RBI double, and two came from Ryan Braun, who tripled and homered.

Remember last year, shortly after we traded for CC ...
How Suppan got put on the DL with arm soreness (or some other nonsense)? But, really, it was the equivalent of two straight weeks of “DNP — Coach’s Decision”?
Is this the same thing?

I'd say yes if it wasn't for the MRI and lack of replacement pitching
But the team could be lying about that I suppose.

I've said this before (but probably not here) ...
I really like the NBA’s “inactive” list, where you get to keep a guy on the roster and not have to play him, but you don’t have to come up with a cockamamie (spelled that wrong) excuse like: “Itchy eyelids.”
I’d like to put Bill Hall on the inactive list.
by Rubie Q on Jul 28, 2009 10:17 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The NBA kind of re-did that, I think
I believe it’s just a straight 15-man roster now rather than 12 active + 3 inactive or whatever it used to be.

But I saw on JSOnline that Witrado said that FoxSports is saying (speculating is probably the better word) that the Mariners might be interested in Weeks for Washburn.

Looks like speculation, given that it read, “One thing to keep in mind: Zduriencik is said to be a great admirer of Milwaukee second baseman Rickie Weeks.”
Agreed 100%. I know this is based off of irrational good vibes from the first month or so of this year, but if Rickie is a PTBNL, then there’d better not be any players on the Brewers’ end named now.

by Rubie Q on Jul 28, 2009 10:57 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Without looking at the play-by-play.
He probably walked 1 per inning. They weren’t all in the 8th, but he didn’t look all that good. Ended two innings off double plays. He had guys on first and second in every inning except one I think. Pretty much what people expected, he maybe could go 3-4 innings but he wasn’t going to be fooling anyone.
I expect they’ll use him as a long reliever while Clung is on the DL and then he’ll be back down.
