Around SBN: Hugh Douglas Admits To Stealing From Jaguars

Rumorville: Kevin Correia

According to Foxsports, the Padres "are actively shopping right-hander Kevin Correia, and the Brewers are among the teams interested."

Correia's stats are here. Although he currently sports a 4.75 ERA, he's put up ERAs under 3.5 twice since 2006 (though mostly as a reliever), and his WHIP over the same time period has been under 1.4 in each season except for one.

Oops, looks like someone just leveled the playing field!

Like all trades, depends upon what they give up

It doesn’t seem like Bush is going to be back anytime soon and a 4.75, 1.4 WHIP sounds pretty good right now, especially since he’s had substantial time in the bullpen in his career, which makes him easy to move out of the starting lineup when Bush is healthy.

Of course, if they’re expected to give up someone pretty important in return, DM won’t really bite. It seems like exactly the kind of trade that’s good for a team that doesn’t want to be a serious buyer or seller. This rumor might have legs.

Another Looper

From his stats, Correia appears to be another Looper. Not necessarily a bad thing, but still not really someone who’s going to solidify the rotation and carry the Brewers to the playoffs.

My guess it that they are looking at someone who they think can be re-signed after this season. In addition, they might still be looking at Washburn, but not until the off-season when he’s a free agent.

He is much better than Looper, at least this year

His FIP is under 4.00 and he has pitched better than his ERA would indicate. His K/BB numbers are solid. If he can be had cheaply, he is the kind of guy we could use.

Correia

With Correia, we’re looking at somebody who can adequately fill in while Bush and Suppan are hurt. When they return, he will be moved to the bullpen, where he has had some success in his career.
