Can the Brewers win just their second day game in 14 attempts, win back to back games for the first time in July and get back to .500? Follow the jump for today's pitching matchup, lineup and conversation on today's game!
John Dale "J.D." Martin (0-1, 7.50) is making his third career start today for the Nationals, and hasn't fared very well in his previous two, pitching just six innings over two games and allowing five runs on ten hits. A former first round pick of the Indians (drafted 35th overall in 2001), Martin is 26 years old and has gone 20-6 with a sub-3.00 ERA between AA and AAA over the last two seasons. This season, he was posting a 0.966 WHIP in AAA Syracuse, striking out 6.4 batters per nine innings and walking just one.
Martin will be opposed by Yovani Gallardo (9-7, 3.09), who has lost three of his five starts in July, but did pitch 7.1 shutout innings for his ninth win last time out. Only four Nationals have faced Gallardo before: He's shut down Nyjer Morgan (1-for-11 with a walk) but struggled a bit with Adam Dunn (1-for-4 with a double and two walks).
J.J. Hardy is out of the lineup today, making room for last night's hero, Casey McGehee (h/t McCalvy):
Felipe Lopez 2B
Craig Counsell SS
Ryan Braun LF
Prince Fielder 1B
Corey Hart RF
Mike Cameron CF
Casey McGehee 3B
Jason Kendall C
Yovani Gallardo RHP
In the bullpen, Trevor Hoffman may not be available after pitching the last two days, and Tim Dillard and Todd Coffey probably aren't, either:
Trevor Hoffman pitched an inning (19 pitches) last night, and also pitched on Tuesday.
Todd Coffey pitched two innings (17 pitches) last night.
Tim Dillard pitched four innings (63 pitches) Tuesday.
Mark DiFelice pitched .1 innings (6 pitches) Tuesday, and also pitched Sunday and Monday.
R.J. Swindle has not pitched since Monday.
Chris Smith has not pitched since Monday.
Mitch Stetter has not pitched since Monday.
Enjoy the game!
