Hall Optioned, Suppan to DL
(EDIT by KLSnow) No corresponding moves have been announced yet, although if players are coming up from the minors an official announcement likely would not be made until tomorrow afternoon.
(EDIT by TheJay) Per McCalvy, Hernan Iribarren up for Hall. (h/t Aceinyourhole)

Question: Did Hall have to clear waivers of any kind? Didn't know if he had an option yet, and if he did, why this didn't happen months ago.
by Mykenk on Jul 30, 2009 4:09 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Since he had over 5 years of service, he could have optioned for FA and we’d still float the bill. Sounds like the move was done now due to the fact that Hall finally agreed to accept his option and go to Nashville.
What I’m concerned about is Gamels play time. Unless they move Gamel, or bring up Gamel, they’ll be fighting for play time.

if the goal is to get him ABs
He could play OF or 2B too.
by Cervercero on Jul 30, 2009 7:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's fair.. but...
As long as Hall does the moving, I’m fine. I just don’t want to see developing players (Gamel) lose play time.

And for only two weeks?
I’ve never heard of someone being sent to AAA for two weeks.

That's just what they told Billy.
“It’s just 2 weeks, it’s not so bad… honest!”
by Mykenk on Jul 30, 2009 4:11 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
what is he going to do when he gets back
Counsell and McGehee are still playing well enough to keep themselves in the lineup. He’s still just going to sit on the bench.

I’m guessing he might be trying to show the rest of MLB that he can still swing the bat and maybe get a couple trade offers out of Milwaukee.

Too bad he didn't agree to do that before the Giants traded for a 2B

Another potential Dessensitis victim, I would guess, unless he absolutely mashes in those two weeks.

i'd assume gamel up?
otherwise with gamel, heether and hall all there…
unless they’re planning on shuffling his position to train him for someone else being traded. ie Hart. I don’t think they’d have him move to short with Escobar almost ready.
by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 30, 2009 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Maybe Heether up?
He’d be a more natural backup than Billy…
by Zeyes on Jul 30, 2009 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Katin?
Would be a good late game PH power threat, though would leave the infield short a backup.
by Supertramp on Jul 30, 2009 4:46 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
anyone got much on katin?
don’t know much about him.

does Hall have the power to dictate terms of his demotion?
one once he’s down, anything goes?
by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 31, 2009 10:24 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think they couuld leave him in AAA for the rest of the year
I’m sure he’ll be put back on the active roster in September unless he’s hurt or dealt by then just because they’re paying him anyway.

To call Bill Hall "slumping", as McCalvy did in that tweet
is the height of charity.
by Rubie Q on Jul 30, 2009 4:18 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah, he's done slumping.
now he’s just a bad baseball player.

Who becomes the post-HR dugout greeter now? Hall's ALWAYS first!
by Mykenk on Jul 30, 2009 4:19 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
That's an excellent question.
Bill Hall was baseball’s version of Mateen Cleaves.

Damn I feel bad laughing at that.
At least Billy was a good clubhouse guy.

Haudicourt with some quotes from Hall
Here, including a laughable: “My swing is good. I just need some reps” line from Billy.

lol at the last part:
“Suppan went on the DL with a strained left oblique, suffered while swinging the bat in his last start Monday against Washington.”
Damn that sacrifice bunt! Should have pinch hit!

Gamel didn’t play yesterday.

yikes
hope this doesn’t portend anything with gamel. want him to be: a) not traded and b) get reps every day.

He played tonight
Alcides Escobar didn’t. Chase Wright started and got pasted so he won’t be the pitcher called up.
It won’t happen, but I kind of want Chris Cody to get the call even with bad starts his last two times out.

Best of Luck
As much as I love ripping on Hall I really do hope that he can fix whatever is wrong in his mechanics and if we do decide to bring him back up he may be able to provide some help, either that or just trade him and be done with that huge contract…. question is who would want him. Either way I just hope he finds whatever he lost.

From the THwitter
3B Bill Hall, with 6 years in majors and .201 BA, agrees to go down to Class AAA Nashville and work on swing. He had to give permission.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

except...you know...the whole living up to is contract thing
and production, fielding, hitting, etc….
I’ll give him credit for realizing he has been awful and actually agreeing to go down to aaa, that’s about it. I hope maybe one day we get to see the good version of bill hall, whether it be on the brewers or not.

He's been fielding pretty good
according to UZR, he’s the 3rd best 3B with over 400 innings in the field… just saying…

does felipe lopez get number 2 now?
because it could be awkward w/ him wearing number three if we want to retire ned’s number this year.

As soon as Lopez tweaked his hammy,
I said: “Yep, it’s the number. Dude just got Yosted.”

no
Bill Hall is the ultimate number 2.

i am concerned
as much as i hate jeff suppan – and i do loathe him (especially after that last outing) – he’s been as good as anyone not name yay!vani. carpenter was on the DL for, what, 6 weeks? so jeff gone, bush out, and some of our AAA guys not impressing in their previous attempts leaves me worried.
the 2 roster moves with nothing corresponding announced leaves me wondering if there was a trade, but given the team’s current standing (we’d have to leap 3 teams for the NLC and maybe 7 for the wild card) i’m not sold on that being the best thing in the longer-term.

Heether has played 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF and pitched this season and in the past.

Iribarren
is just a rediculous call up, regardless of how he’s been in AAA.
I’m very not impressed with him.
