Washburn to Detroit
While it was fairly obvious in the recent days that he was not going to land here I find it interesting though as to how little Detroit ended giving up for him. While I won't pretend to know either of the pitchers given up the quote that struck me from the SI article follows:
"French and Robles were not among the top 10 prospects in the Tigers' organization entering this season, according to Baseball America."
While I am not upset at all that we will be staying pat (though I would've liked to see Hardy go to bring up Escobar) couldn't we have given something comparable?
(I figure most people will respond with the fact that we don't have young pitching to offer and that's what everyone wants)

Lookout Landing is absouletly thrilled with the return they got for him, think they got a steal
French looks to be a league average-ish lefty starter who is under control for the next 5 years. A similar pitcher to Washburn, really. I really don’t know if we had anything comparable to offer here.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
We had plenty.
It’s just a damn good thing we didn’t give anything for him.

define steal
he’s a 34 years old expiring contract and a historically average (at best) pitcher. No doubt he makes the current staff better with his current aberration of a year, but this move only gives them incremental gains on the twins and sox. No move in baseball would increase their ceiling of frst round exit.
