Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Rumorville: Javier Vazquez

I just heard on MLBTR that Buster Olney speculates the Braves and Brewers might make a trade soon.  Since you all need starting pitching, and we need an outfielder, we could give you Javier Vazquez, and in return we get Corey Hart and maybe one additional player.  I thought the speculation was realistic, and it made sense for both sides.  We could finally get someone to replace Francoeur in right field, and you get a solid, durable innings-eater in Vazquez.  So what do you all think about this possible trade?

Vasquez isn't just a durable innings eater

the guy is 2nd in K’s in the majors

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Yeah I'd certainly do it

You could probably scrape together a platoon that would replace what Hart has done so far. Hart’s a good player certainly but adding Vasquez would be sweet.

Yes he is

He pitches 200 innings almost every year.

That's what he was saying

did you read it as “he just isn’t a durable innings eater”? He’s saying he eats innings, and he’s really good.

I would do it faster than that even

I'd do it in a Jiffy

“In astrophysics and quantum physics a jiffy is, as defined by Edward R. Harrison, the time it takes for light to travel one fermi, which is the size of a nucleon. One fermi is 10−15 m, so a jiffy is about 3 × 10−29 seconds.”

by warwick5s on Jul 4, 2009 2:54 PM CDT up reply actions

well, I'd do it in half a jiffy

so there

Is Vasquez a free agent after this season or does he have a year or two left on his contract?

Either way; I’d do it. Bonus: It opens up a spot for Gamel if the organization really doesn’t like him at third.

From MLBTR:
The Brewers heard Ryan Braun’s plea for help and they have responded. They called the Braves about Javier Vazquez, according to ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick. However, Atlanta likely won’t part with Vazquez in a deal that doesn’t bring back Mat Gamel or Alcides Escobar, a pair of youngsters Brewers GM Doug Melvin has repeatedly deemed untouchable.

And from TH
NEW UPDATE: I JUST SPOKE WITH BREWERS GENERAL MANAGER DOUG MELVIN AND HE SAID HE IS NOT DISCUSSING A TRADE WITH ATLANTA GM FRANK WREN FOR JAVIER VAZQUEZ.

haha

I know he was trying to differentiate the update from the rest of his post, but I like to imagine he’s yelling at the internet when he does that.

Does that mean he isn't discussing it ANYMORE, or that he hasn't at all.
However, Atlanta likely won’t part with Vazquez in a deal that doesn’t bring back Mat Gamel or Alcides Escobar, a pair of youngsters Brewers GM Doug Melvin has repeatedly deemed untouchable.

Hard to tell if he’s saying that with any actual information behind it…or just guessing.

maybe they're discussing other players

Also

I believe TH is trying to convey the information from Crasnick’s story. I could be wrong, as I am not an ESPN insider, and haven’t read Crasnick’s story.

I'm going to go ahead and assume they haven't discussed it at all.

And maybe it’s just me, but GM’s wouldn’t go into a trade discussion by saying one of these two minor leaguers has to be in the deal… The Brewers have a fairly rich farm system and a couple major leaguers who(we think) there willing to part with. Plus they can have Bill Hall for no extra charge!

by Metagen on Jul 6, 2009 5:44 PM CDT up reply actions

I vote for anymore...

…. Hey, what’ll it take to get Vazquez?
…. Hart and Escobar.
…. sonofa…

5 MINUTES LATER:

Dammit Tom, I’m not talking to the Braves, and if you don’t twitter that in the next 3 minutes I’ll start taking Witrado’s calls.

Just read on MLBTR

that the Braves likely won’t part with Vazquez for Hart alone. So it looks like you guys would have to include one of Gamel or Escobar in the deal.

How about Bill Hall

I hear he’s the major league version of Mat Gamel…..

Heh, I love the notion of Gamel or Escobar as a throw-in in a Hart-centred deal.

Let’s talk about sending us Francoeur again while we’re at it…

by Zeyes on Jul 6, 2009 5:13 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd part with a Salome but you don't need a catcher, sadly

You know, just about any prospect but those two, really.

McCann can catch, throw, and hit

and Salome can see. Perfect platoon!

Also, cheese.
