did anyone see that Neftali Feliz has a whip of 0.15 thus far?!? I know its a tiny sample but that really caught me off guard
This Rivera guy was a hell of a pick up.
Who’d we get him from? Who’d we have to give up?
What’s that? He’s been on the roster all season? Oh.
Just got an email from the Timber Rattlers
They’re promoting a Jeff Suppan rehab start on Saturday. I’m happier than ever to have tickets for Sunday.

They’ve all caught at least one game as a Brewer since 1990, and they all posted a higher Brewer OPS than Jason Kendall.

Yeah
I picked and chose a bit off the list. There are actually 22 Brewer catchers since 1990 with a higher OPS than Kendall. Amazingly, there are also 15 worse.

Also
All seven men in the bullpen have pitched in the last two days, and there’s not really anyone in the pen that can go more than 1-2 innings.

Of course.
But I’d rather have them go 2-3 innings than 5.

Just noticed the Brewers have yet to leave a man on base in the game.
Nine baserunners, nine runs.

Good God, Manny.
A pitcher who is handed a nine-run lead should be able to go seven innings in his sleep.
Well, he's doing what you're supposed to do
Throw strikes and let guys get themselves out.
If he was walking everyone, it’d be different.

Well, no
He’s giving up hits, but he’s throwing strikes and acknowledging the fact that 9-0 and 9-2 aren’t that much different.

Other random Gerut stats
He has hit for a .745 OPS since the All-Star break (before today) in all of 18 plate appearances.
On the flip side, he has a .331 OPS (yes, OPS) as a substitute with the Brewers.
So clearly they need to start him and never use him as a pinch-hitter!

Solid contact for Escobar
Straight at someone, but solid.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
How long do we attribute five bad months to bad luck?
Yeah, he hit a few balls straight at someone. But unless he’s having absolutely unprecedented luck, it wasn’t enough to turn him from a .283 hitter to a .229 hitter. Maybe it was the difference between .230 and .250, but even if a few hits dropped in, he’d still be significantly down from last season.

He was probably frustrated with himself
"If lovin’ Braun is wrong, I want to be a repeat offender!"
RIP Nick Adenhart - Stop Drunk Driving
I would guess more like angry
He was cruising along with his normal style. Coaches then made sure he was pitching to contact to shorten the game and he get shelled like a peanut.
In his mind:
Parra = 4 shutout innings
Coach = zillion runs no Ks
You think the coaches told him to start throwing meatballs up there?
He was at, what, 55 or 60 pitches through four innings? Why would they have told him to change anything?
Well, we don't know that for sure
But it’s possible they earned partial blame.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
I'm not saying it
I’m just saying that if Parra is ticked off, he might have a reason for it. He wasn’t really keeping the ball down so he was going to get it, but he had really good stuff early and was getting Ks. Normal pitching strategy when you’re up by a ton is merely to get the opposing team to put a bat on the ball. Parra was getting guys out by himself.
Right.
So why would they tell him to stop doing what was working — especially when they’re dealing with somebody as mentally fragile as Manny?
Here's what the conversation looks like in my head:
“Hey Manny, things are going well today, but we really need you to eat some innings and save the bullpen. So, try to keep it around the plate, if you give up a hit here and there, no big deal, just hang in there and keep throwing strikes, ok?”
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
It's possible, sure.
But Manny’s a headcase. I just don’t see them trying to get him to change his approach mid-game.
Agree to disagree, then.
So...
Parra being “ticked off” is your reason for thinking the coaches are to blame? What about Rivera who’s calling the game? Or how about he’s just ticked at himself?
Manny is mad at himself
Anyone who has paid attention to how he plays the game would be able to guess that pretty easily. I’d be mad at myself too if I wasn’t playing maybe as well as I knew I could.
"If lovin’ Braun is wrong, I want to be a repeat offender!"

Where's TheJay when I need him?
I want to know the last time a team had two six hit games in a series.

On his way home from work, of course

Yeah. The answers were:
a) A rickshaw
b) Something to do with ex-Brewer catchers
Well, that’s what I’ve learned today…

Anyone feel comfortable with Stetter coming in?

This is going to be one of those 1 pitch 3 run home runs.
And I’m going to throw something at someone if that happens.

I'm not exceptionally excited.
Stetter has allowed the last eight batters he’s faced to reach.

He should just turn around and bean Lopez.

Isn't today's game important as tomorrow nights? It was also a high leverage situation
and he’s the best pitcher out in the pen

Braun tried to give me a heart attack.

what happened
Ueck’s voice did crack as he was making the catch

unsteadily ran under the ball
and caught it with his glove at his side. Braun looked just a little nervous.
Looking into the sun.
He mis-read it a bit so he had to reach to his right. Not pretty.

If somebody woke up from a two-month coma and asked me:
“Jesus, Rubie, what happened to the Brewers? They were playing so well!” … I’d just make him watch this game.
If we lose this game I might go into a voluntary two-month coma.

So, it turns out this is going to be the high scoring type game, not the blowout.
Hopefully it’s the high scoring win variety.
I've got it.
Before the game, Hoffman hypnotized Lopez into throwing the game so he’d have a chance to get some work. This is all going according to plan.
Good point...
he’s not getting any younger, so if he wants to hit 600 saves, he needs to get more opportunities.
I never thought I'd be saying this
But I’m glad we’re done with the Padres this year

Damn
I’m with you on this one, and seriously it makes me hate myself
captainbok: What do you like the most about milwaukee
Jeff Suppan: Captain Bok, that is a great question. Does "Bok" mean Book of Knowledge? My favorite thing about Milwaukee are the Brewers.
Thinking positive
I’m just going to assume that TGjr gave the Padres insider information on every Brewers pitchers’ weaknesses
The Padres don't have time to listen to all the pitchers weaknesses
That would take up most of the off season

But likewise
it’s not like the Brewers spent hours discussing TGJ’s strengths…
