Skipping high A entirely is an interesting move, although the Brewers could be doing it to qualify him for the Arizona Fall League.

The weird thing about the AFL theory
The non-exemption deadline is at the end of July for AA, and there’s a world cup baseball tournament thing that Lawrie is supposed to play in for Canada during September.

But if he's playing in the world cup he won't be around to play in the AFL...

I thought the AFL was a different type of football than the World Cup

Eric Farris has got to be...
…mildly PO’d at getting leapfrogged despite a pretty solid year at Brevard. Absent the AFL angle (and recognizing Lawrie’s ceiling), you’d think giving each of them late season promotions (Farris to AA and Lawrie to FSL) would have been in order.
Part of it...
may also be a thought to keep the Brevard County squad more or less intact as they have one of the best records in the minors. Not that Lawrie wouldn’t be a solid addition.
