SBNation Coverage
Just when you thought the Brewers had found rock bottom, they went ahead and got swept at home by the Reds.
Things started off pretty well for the Brewers today against Justin Lehr, as they scored four runs in the first inning on Prince Fielder's 35th home run and Mike Cameron's RBI double. Dave Bush no-hit the Reds into the fourth inning, then all of a sudden the wheels came off.
Six straight Reds reached base off of Bush and Mark DiFelice in the fifth inning as the Reds scored six times to take the lead. Justin Lehr, who was nearly bounced from the game in the first inning, held the Brewers scoreless until the eighth inning, when Mike Cameron hit a solo home run.
All told, Bush allowed five earned runs on four hits and three walks in 4.2 innings, picking up his fifth loss.

Why?
Are you and Witrado going to be the bullpen catchers for the Mariners?

I don't remember feeling this upset during the 106 loss season
battlekow: Bill is having an oppo-gasm
Things have been getting better the past few years
Now they’re about as good as they’re going to get (offense is good already, no pitching on the horizon) internally, so it sucks not to have the winning years that were the goal since that 106 loss season.

Couldn't have said it any better myself
I’ve gotten to the point where I wish we would have hired Jack Z as GM…Sigh…just frustrating

You mean the same Jack Z that...
got us some great hitting players who play so-so defense, but not so much luck with pitching prospects? One could argue that the lack of pitching prospects in the farm system is attributed to him.
i still would rather have him than Mark A.
Perhaps he’d hire someone better to handle the pitching end of the draft and still make input to the hitters.

Could be
Disappointing, regardless.

One strike away from getting out of the fifth...
…hard to take when you run out of gas on a two out nine pitch walk to the pitcher. But at least Bush was solid for 4+ (unlike Soup).
Hot stove can’t come soon enough.
I a fan of Macha's (I guess)
and I wasn’t able to watch or listen to the game, BUT
How can a manager be trying to squeeze 92 pitches out of a guy who has (had?) a torn triceps?
Without an explanation from someone here, this goes on Macha.

Also...
Don’t forget, Bush’s PC was at 92 when he left the game. When he started the 5th inning, it was much less than that. In fact, it still wasn’t close even after he got the first 2 outs.
He then faced four more batters… two of which took 13 pitches.
I don’t think Macha was trying to squeeze anything… he was just hoping Bush could just get one more out.
never make a proclamation of how the team hasn't lost at a game you've gone to.
I figured out that I was 6-0, and have gone 2-7 since.
Then again, so go the Brewers…

I'll probably head to at least one more game this season...
but it’ll be after the September call ups.
